Introducing the OK2Ask Digital Storytelling Series

Digital storytelling combines the art of storytelling with digital multimedia, such as images, audio, and video in a way that creates an effective learning tool for students. If you would like to learn how to use Digital Storytelling to improve student communication—in any subject—our OK2Ask® Digital Storytelling series is for you.

Our OK2Ask series on Digital Storytelling will introduce you to:

  • the art of digital storytelling for the classroom
  • how to integrate digital storytelling into content area instruction
  • tools your students can use to produce stories

 

Along the way, you’ll learn tips on:

  • educational uses for story development
  • finding visuals for your stories and classroom narratives
  • improving your students’ communication skills 

Special guests for this series will include nationally-known authors Jason Ohler and Bernajean Porter. The facilitator will be Gretchen Sting, longtime TeachersFirst contributor and digital storytelling aficionado.


Session 1: Introduction to Digital Storytelling

Explore ways to improve writing with story development steps and tools; share tech tools for editing and sharing student drafts; discuss strategies for collaborative writing. Learn to promote higher-level thinking while students develop creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills to take narratives to the next level. Our digital storytelling guest expert, author, speaker, and writer, Jason Ohler, joins us to help you begin your journey into digital storytelling. This session is for teachers at ALL technology comfort levels.**

Session 2: Digital Storytelling in the Classroom

Learn how to implement a digital storytelling project in your science, social studies, health, or other content area classes successfully. Discover ways to improve student communication skills. Explore options for integrating a digital storytelling unit into your curriculum. Our digital storytelling guest expert, author, speaker, and writer, Bernajean Porter, joins us to continue our journey into digital storytelling. This session is appropriate for teachers at all technology levels.**

As a result of this session teachers will:

Understand steps for successful implementation of a digital storytelling project

Session 3: Three Cool Tools for Digital Storytelling
April 2017

We’ll review copyright and digital citizenship as they apply to Digital Storytelling with students. We’ll also explore sources for adding images and sound to your stories, and various ways to publish your students’ work to authentic audiences outside of your classroom. This session is appropriate for teachers at all technology levels.**

As a result of this session teachers will:
Review copyright and digital citizenship
Learn about three tech tools that can be used for digital storytelling
Explore ways in which to publish their students’ stories
