Help! I lost my library/media specialist! - "Gifts of Character" Read-Alouds

Introduction - Gifts of Character

As we enter the holiday season, books can provide a springboard for discussions about the character traits we typically associate with this time of year and try to instill: generosity, benevolence, philanthropy, compassion, service, and kindness.  Incorporate these books into a larger unit of character traits, or simply use them as vehicles for some great discussions and reflections as the winter holidays approach.

Although they are not specifically “holiday” books, many of the titles listed below will help to engender an “attitude of gratitude” and an awareness of how the simple gifts of our time and friendship, our talents, and a generous spirit can make a difference. Perhaps you and the students in your class will be inspired to keep the spirit of this season alive long after the holidays are over!
