Inclusion Resources

Updated: April 17, 2001

The Circle of Inclusion - A site on inclusion for early childhood and primary educators and those who support them. The site tackles topics particular to inclusion among younger children, offering philosophy, pointers for teachers, and suggestions on how to implement inclusion successfully.

Inclusive Education Website - A simply-designed site for those who know very little about inclusion. It covers the basic philosophy behind inclusion and the legal requirements for inclusion, plus everything from teacher and administrative strategies to student preparation to financial considerations. There is also a helpful list of other resources which includes books, organizations, and links to sites that carry videos and other helpful materials. A good site to start with if you’re not sure where to begin.

Institute on Community Integration - This site is more research/report-oriented than teacher-oriented, but it does have a list of publications and curriculum you can purchase online for teaching students of all grade levels about disabilities. The materials are mainly oriented towards getting students to understand each other and cooperate in the classroom setting. Click on the "Institute Publications Catalog" link if you need this type of information.

Inclusion: School as a Caring Community - A well-organized site with loads of information for the classroom. The center of the site is the "Handbook," which is divided into three categories: teacher support, getting organized, and classroom strategies. Each category has information for elementary and secondary grade levels. The Handbook is partnered with "Field Notes," verbatim interviews with teachers and students that offer insight into different aspects of inclusion. There is also a "Feedback" discussion section where teachers can ask specific questions or join the listserv. Of course, the site also includes a list of helpful links. A definite must-visit site for any teacher working on inclusion!

Inclusion Resource Network - This is the site to visit if you have more specific questions on inclusion. The most useful tool is the searchable database, where you can type in a search word or check off one of the many categories to find information in the form of magazine articles, pamphlets, videos, and more. A short summary describes each resource, so you can see if it’s really what you’re looking for.

The Inclusion Press Home Page - The Inclusion Press is a small, independent Canadian press that produces quality materials about inclusion in schools and community. Their site has lots of inclusion information, both to read on-site and to order. They have the latest news regarding inclusion and strategies for dealing with inclusion problems, as well as the newest books and videos on inclusion. You can order these resources online. Inclusion Press also offers many inclusion workshops, mostly held in Toronto, where the press headquarters is located.

Utah Inclusion Pages - Home site for Utah's inclusion in education efforts. The site has a thorough guidebook and comments and suggestions from teachers who have worked in inclusive classrooms.
