Art for Kids - Grades 1-5 - The Mining Company. This is a great site with numerous resources, including specific lessons ranging from Norman Rockwell to Japanese Art and has electronic activities like An Artist Word Search! The site also has many related links.

AskEric Arts Lesson Plans K-12 This site contains sections on Architecture, Art Activities, Art History and Music. Each section contains lesson plans specific to grade levels. The lessons are submitted by teachers and edited by ERIC. Each plan includes a list of sites appropriate for that particular lesson. The plans are well thought out and easy to follow.

Art of Egypt Webquest - Grades: 4-6 - Subjects: History, Art - This webquest has two main parts. First, students will take an online museum tour of ancient Egypt. They will choose one picture and use a search engine to find out more information on it. Next, they will research and discuss possible causes of the death of Tutankhamen. The mummification process is also covered on this site.

The Art of the Quilt by Sylvia Sherertz, Yale-New Haven Teachers Institute - Social Studies (interdisciplinary) - Grade 4-6 - Combining history, math, culture, art/design, and community awareness, this unit uses the quilt as a tool toward understanding African American culture. Students are introduced to the African homeland, the "story quilts" of Harriet Powers, and the significance of quilt-making in African American society. Individual quilt squares are designed and sown together to create a "story quilt" for the entire class.

ARTNet Nebraska - Nebraska Dept. of Education -  Grades 7-12 - This site is an excellent resource for detailed lesson plans 7-12 (more still being added)and well-indexed links to art resources and integrated art/technology links for all grades. You can find an artist, find online art collections, and find Internet arts resources by subject. This site is user friendly for any art teacher.

ArtsEdNet by Getty Education Institute for the Arts -  K-12 This site provides lesson plans and curriculum ideas segmented into elementary, middle school, and high school levels, including ideas for integration into regular curriculum. The site also has image galleries and understandable links within the site to make it usable for all.

Art Takes Time - Grades 1-8 - The title isn't very descriptive, but this site, created by an art teacher, provides a nice collection of art projects and lessons, each of which is centered around a particular period in art history. The themes run from early cave paintings up through the twentieth century. The artwork in each section serves to reinforce the material presented. Definitely worth a look for teachers who are trying to tie hands-on activities to art history. Privately produced. 

Art Teacher on the Net - Source: individual site with many university ties, but is not university sponsored. The target is K-12, with more information for the younger grades. This site contains specific art projects with detailed listing of needed supplies, including some cross-curriculum ideas. It also contains listing of some services that are available at a small price. Has lots of ideas!

Attitudes Toward Nature in Taoist Art - Art/ World Cultures - Grades 9-12 - Understand the Taoist point of view through art and poetry. From the Ask Asia series.

Color Theory for Teachers - Grades 4-9 - Here's a well-illustrated, amply narrated explanation of how to introduce color theory into your art curriculum. This lesson uses easy-to-make foam core shapes to help students learn how colors combine and interact with one another. Lots of photographs show how the lesson can work in the classroom. This one's complete enough that teachers who aren't art specialists could use it.

Ethnic Art: African, Mexican and Caribbean Perspectives by Val-Jean Belton, Yale-New Haven Teachers Institute - Art - Grades 7-8 - Use art as a springboard to an understanding of African American culture. After comparing and contrasting art forms from Mexican and Caribbean cultures, students are asked to respond in writing using appropriate vocabulary and create original art works. This 8-10 week unit is designed for a middle school art class, meeting three times per week.

Kinder Art - Grades K-8 - This site offers an extensive collection of art lesson plans for young students, as well as places for teachers to exchange art education ideas and for students to submit their work. Try it out for specific lesson ideas, or just for artistic brainstorming.

KinderArt Littles - Grades PK-1 - This companion to the KinderArt site offers a slew of activities for pre-school and kindergarten children. Each activity has an instructional purpose, and all are designed to keep little hands and minds busy. 

Kite Making - Art/Social Studies: Grades 5-8 - Make your own kites by traditional methods as you discuss handcrafted versus manufactured materials and products.

Meeting the Blues - A collection of interdisciplinary lessons on the music, art, and literature of the American "blues" musical art form. There are individual lessons suitable for elementary, middle school, and high school students.

Nataraj: Shiva as Lord of the Dance - World Cultures/ Art: Grades 6-12 - Use the image of Nataraj to study Hinduism and important concepts of Hindu thought.

Plants and Animals: Partners in PollinationSmithsonian in Your Classroom - Science/Art: Grades 4-8 - This series of three lessons first teaches the science lessons about pollination, then culminates with an art activity to draw it all together.

Religious Beliefs Made Visual: Geometry and Islam - World Cultures/Math/Art: Grades 9-12 - In this Ask Asia lesson plan, students construct their own Islamic geometric patterns as they study the patterns as analogies for the Islamic cultural beliefs.

Representation in Art and Film: Identify and Stereotype by Martha Savage, Yale-New Haven Teachers Institute - Art, Language Arts, Social Studies - Grades 7-8 - With an emphasis on the visual arts, age appropriate readings, informational videos, writing, and discussion, this unit examines how stereotypes are used to represent people and characters. While the African-American experience is the focus of this unit, the content can be easily adapted to address other cultural and gender-related stereotypes.

Valentine Art Lesson - Grades 3-8 - This is a detailed, step-by-step lesson showing how to use stencil patterns to create a variety of valentine greetings. The instructions are sufficiently detailed that "non artistic" teachers should be able to incorporate this lesson into their Valentine's Day classroom activities. Lots of helpful illustrations. From the web site "Everyday Art for Kids."

Women of Color as Artists by Val-Jean Belton, Yale-New Haven Teachers Institute - Art, Humanities - Grades 6-8 - An introduction to Black and Hispanic female artists, past and present. After analyzing paintings, murals, and sculptures, students create their own works of art using the styles and techniques presented throughout the unit.
