Make a Victorian Cornucopia
Materials Needed:
- Oak tag or heavy paper
- Scissors and an x-acto knife
- Paste, Rubber cement or glue sticks
- Scraps of wrapping paper, fabric, rubber stamps, stickers
- Crayons, colored pencils, markers
- Lace, sequins, ribbon
- Gold or silver cord and stapler
- Small pieces of wrapped candy
1. Print out the cornucopia pattern. Click here to display the pattern using the Adobe Acrobat reader. Transfer the pattern to a heavy weight paper or oak tag. Carefully cut out.
2. Be sure to transfer the fold lines from the pattern and lightly score each line with an x-acto knife or scissor blade for easier folding.
3. Flip over to right side. Using scraps of wrapping paper, fabric, Victorian rubber stamps, stickers, or student-created artwork, decorate as desired. Remember, to the Victorians, there was no such thing as too much decoration!
4. Gently fold into the cornucopia shape, apply paste or glue (I recommend using a glue stick with younger students) to the "glue" flap and secure.
5. Attach additional lace, ribbons, bows, or other accouterments.
6. Staple or glue a length of ribbon or gold/silver cord to each side of the cornucopia, fill with treats, and fold lid to close.
