Some of the buildings were used as sleeping quarters for enlisted men and visiting scouts.
Though cooking was often done outdoors, this fort has an indoor kitchen building with an open hearth that could be used for cooking. Note the plants drying on the mantle and walls.
There was not a lot of extra space in these buildings. This indoor kitchen is just big enough for a hearth and table, with work space for two or three people.
When there was danger present, the fort had to be completely self-sufficient. Food and supplies were kept in this small, windowless storehouse.
