Use this sheet and the web site The Time 100 at http://www.pathfinder.com/time/time100/index.html to plan your visit to the Great Minds of the Twentieth Century Reception to be held on _____________________. If you answer every question on this sheet, you will be well prepared to introduce yourself and converse with the other Great Minds who attend the reception.

First, take some time to scan through the site, including the various categories of personalities. After spending AT LEAST one class period on this, select the personality you wish to portray and have it approved by your teacher.

Now answer ALL the questions about you. Complete sentences are necessary for #9. All others may be answered NEATLY, but in note-taking form. Use a separate sheet if you need more room.

1. What are your dates of birth/death?

 

2. What are the important facts about your upbringing/background/childhood? (when, where, etc.)

 

 


3. What is considered to be your greatest contribution/accomplishment? Explain in detail. If more than one, tell all.

 

 

 

 

 

4. What historical context is important to understanding the impact of your work? (Did you work at a critical time in history? What trends were you part of or opposite to? What other important events were happening at the same time?)

 


5. If you had not lived/done this greatest deed, how would the world be different today? Tell at least two or three ways (make hypotheses).

 

 

6. What others had an influence on your work/accomplishments (and how)? Who were your associates and enemies?

 

 


7. Are you universally thought of as a "good" person, or are there some controversial aspects to your life/ideas? If so, what? Do some people disagree with you or with what you stand for?

 

 

 


8. What made you decide to portray this person?

 

 


9. If you had to tell someone in fifty words or less who you are and why you are important, write those fifty words here (take your time with this one). Be sure to edit carefully. Use the word processor and print this one out. Be sure to SAVE it on a disk!!!

 


10. If you were to "be" this person, what props, costume, or other things would you need to use to truly convey the most important attributes of your personality and accomplishments? How could you find/create these items for little or no cost from around your house or the classroom?

 

 


11. On a 5 by 8 card or sheet of paper, oriented VERTICALLY, make a graphic representation of yourself or your greatest accomplishment which can be hung as part of the classroom time line. This card MUST include:
· your person's name
· dates
· symbolic or pictorial representation of you or what you did - must be shown CREATIVELY
· a verbal explanation, written neatly and clearly, in a maximum of fifty words (use print out, if it can fit)
· your (student) name on the back

THIS CARD and your notes are your admission tickets to the reception!!!!
