Concerned about teaching children to be smart consumers? Choose different places in the virtual mall to hang out to learn about supply and demand or competition. Visit the West Terrace, Food Court, East Terrace, or Security Plaza. Become aware of issues such as scams, purposefully misleading advertising, and identity theft. Learn from this easy to understand and entertaining site with a large variety of relevant lessons. Move to other areas of the mall by clicking on the "Mall Map." Don't miss the Parents & Teachers link.

In the Classroom

Share this site on your interactive whiteboard or projector. Find additional activities and fact sheets in the "Parents and Teachers" section. Choose from an unbelievable array of activities. For example, in the Book Cafe, learn about privacy and personal information. Extend the discussion about sites where information is displayed and suggesting what is appropriate or inappropriate. Read articles that outline poor choices and consequences to spark discussion. Create fact sheets or posters that can be shared with younger students. Have your students create an interactive online poster using Lucidpress, reviewed here.
