In the Classroom

Use Pinwords to create a beautiful image to begin a unit. Start with an interesting quote or comment and view the finished picture on your interactive whiteboard (or projector) as a starting point for the unit. Have older students be responsible for creating a Pinwords image each week with a quote of the week or interesting comment on topics discussed in class. Have students choose one interesting quote or piece of information from any text to create a Pinword. Have students explain their choice as part of a class presentation. If permitted under school policy, upload student pictures and have students insert a description of themselves as an ice breaker for back to school activities. Create "avatars" with text for students to learn basic terms. Start by uploading digital pictures, such as for pieces of lab equipment or musical instruments, and add text. Use the avatars to introduce themselves on Voki, reviewed here. Upload images from class trips, activities, and events and add text to create a bulletin board display of the year's events.
