About Sparknotes

The Sparknotes site contains context, plot summaries, study questions, and related information for dozens of works frequently encountered in college curricula. Originally developed by graduate students at Harvard, most of the content is the work of graduate students and English majors. Most of the treatments are sufficiently thorough to be useful at the college level.

TeachersFirst lists these resources because we believe they may be useful to teachers unfamiliar with any of these works. We also suspect that some of your students are already aware of the site. While we cannot comment on the appropriateness of Sparknotes for your students, the ease with which internet resources can be incorporated into student work suggests that teachers need to be aware of resources which might be commonly misused for this purpose.
