Choose a topics such as Number & Algebra or Problem Solving to view activities sorted by levels 1-6. These levels correspond approximately to US Grades K-12. Select Early Childhood Education to browse resources for PreK/K students. Also check out the sections for parents and professional development that contain many helpful ideas for any education setting. The site was created in New Zealand, so some of the pronunciations and spellings may differ from those in American English.

This fabulous UK site offers many resources for math practice and instruction. Choose the Videos and Worksheets section to find a large list of topics sorted alphabetically including instructional videos and practice questions. Many also include corresponding textbook exercises. Choose 5-a-day to find another large selection of printables for daily review, choose from three different levels for each date. (U.S. users will need to "translate" the 5-a-day letter equivalents to find approximate grade levels; count backwards from grade 12 being "A.") Conundrums for each day of the year provide short, daily brainteasers ready to print and use. Don't miss the Great Maths Bakeoff, a terrific idea for Pi Day! This site was created in the UK. American English speakers will notice slight spelling differences and use of English currency. There is also mention of Key Stages 3, 4, and 5. In America, these stages equate to Ages 11-14 (Stage 3), Ages 14-16 (Stage 4), and Ages 16-18 (Stage 5). Some of the videos are hosted on YouTube. If your district blocks YouTube, the videos may not be viewable. You could always view the videos at home and bring them to class "on a stick" to share. Use a tool such as KeepVid, reviewed here, to download the videos from YouTube.

Learn about famous mathematicians, famous places in math, and the background on some of the origins of mathematics. Be sure to check out the worksheets section for some interesting and quirky activities. This site was created in the UK. American English speakers may notice slight spelling differences. There is also mention of Key Stage 3, 4, and 5. In America, these stages equate to Ages 11-14 (Stage 3), Ages 14-16 (Stage 4), and Ages 16-18 (Stage 5).

Use Maths Is Good For You as a starting point for information on famous mathematicians and theories. Have students upload a photo they have taken and add voice bubbles to explain what they learned using a tool such as Superlame, reviewed here. Just as the name implies, Nick's Mathematical Puzzles is a collection of puzzles. The collection is an oldie but goodie. Each puzzle includes hints, full solutions, and links to related mathematical topics. Scroll through the 10 puzzles available on each of the sixteen pages or view the index to choose puzzles by name. Topics include geometry, probability, number theory, algebra, calculus, trigonometry, and logic. Use the number of stars to determine the difficulty level - 1 star is the easiest on up to 4 stars being most difficult.

Function Carnival is a wonderful challenge to draw graphs to represent what is happening in animated videos. View the very short video then draw a graph representing the action in the video. Watch the video that results from your graph to compare how well you represented the action. Use controls to adjust your graph. Seeing immediate feedback shows if the graph represents the correct motion, and if not, your video shows your inaccuracies. You can continue making adjustments to the graph until both videos match. Begin by creating a class and choosing a basic, advanced, or custom "carnival. " Share student instructions including URL and class code to begin. Be sure to view tips and information about the site to make the most of all features.

Function Carnival is perfect for teaching modeling and observation for math or science BYOD classrooms. Share directions on your interactive whiteboard or projector and allow students to work on graphs at their individual pace. Features built into this site allow students to see areas that need adjustment in their graphs. Be sure to include this site on your class web page for students to access both in and outside of class for practice. Have students take a picture of each graph and the result, then create annotated images including text boxes and related links using a tool such as Thinglink, reviewed here. Their explanations can describe why the slope of the graph changes, for example, when a parachute opens on the falling object.

Address students who need an extra math challenge with the sample Problems of the Week (PoW) for primary through high school in algebra, geometry, trig, and calculus. Search the past years for more problems. There is a paid portion of this site. However, this review only highlights the free information. Articles about teaching with PoW include how to arrange your math curriculum while challenging and engaging students. As professional development, use the guide for Problems of the Week for professional based learning communities.

In the Classroom

Use the problems of the week as an easy way to add challenge. Modify the same rubrics and apply to your own problems. At parents night, use as a demonstration of current math practices and ways to involve parents. After using the sample problems, have students create their own problems based on the current topic. Be sure to highlight rubrics and ways to reach excellence. Present on an interactive whiteboard or projector to do together after students have worked in groups. Use the PoWs as a resource on the class website for all of the students who want more in their math class. Use as extra credit opportunities.

This site is a great place to begin the Common Core math journey, or also just use for checking to be sure you are teaching all of the conceptual material required with each standard. Prepare your students for success with Common Core Math skills at this excellent site presented by Khan Academy. 50,000 unique questions cover conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and real world applications. Use the link to "Browse Our New Common Core Map" to find interactive math problems for grades K-12. Each activity lists the number of skills and problems available for each level. View step by step solutions to each problem. Many problems even include video explanations. The Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium and Illustrative Mathematics partnered with Khan Academy to ensure the rigor of materials and full alignment to the Common Core Standards. Learn more about Khan Academy reviewed here. Videos are hosted on YouTube. If your district blocks YouTube, then they may not be viewable. You could always view the videos at home and bring them to class "on a stick" to share. Use a tool such as KeepVid reviewed here to download the videos from YouTube.

Use problems on the site to present new concepts or review information before end-of-unit assessments. Provide links to lessons on the class website or blog for students to review at home. Have students create their own lessons modeled on this site. Then have students create blogs to practice writing about their math solutions.
