Are you looking for some great STEAM projects to do in your classroom? Instructables.com has a curated collection of STEAM projects complete with step-by-step directions, photos, and tips for completion. Some even have video clips to help with the directions. Projects range in age level from lower elementary to high school. The contributor, The Oakland Toy Lab, designed everything with accessibility in mind. Each project can be created with widely available and relatively low-cost materials. In addition, teachers can create a free account to download printable PDFs of step-by-step directions of each activity. Be aware that this collection is posted as a part of a larger website of community-contributed content, so some Instructables may not be appropriate for a school environment.

In the Classroom

Here, teachers can find one hundred unique, already tried and tested STEAM projects for their classrooms. Teachers can use them as written or as a starting point and modify them to fit their own needs. Perhaps creating a makerspace with several activities and supplies available to choose from would be an excellent station for early finishers in your room. This collection of 100 STEAM projects is a part of a larger website - instructibles.com, where you can learn to do just about anything in any subject area. Be sure to save this site and check back often as content is contributed by the community and is updated regularly, so you never know what you may find - you may even decide to contribute something of your own!

This recording of an OK2Ask online professional learning session is from July 2022. You can register and immediately view the archive of the session.

Persuasive writing is a critical skill that can seem daunting to elementary and middle school students. Now more than ever, readers and writers must be able to distinguish between fact and opinion and clearly identify supporting evidence. Understanding the terms "fact", "opinion", and "evidence" is key to digital literacy, and using them appropriately will help students to construct (and deconstruct) an argument. Join this workshop to look at three tech tools that support authentic persuasive writing. As a result of this session, teachers will: 1. Understand how facts, opinions, and evidence come together form an argument; 2. Explore three online tools for persuasive writing; and 3. Plan to use persuasive writing in instruction. This session is appropriate for teachers at all technology levels.

tag(s): persuasive writing (55), professional development (388), writing (315)

In the Classroom

The archive of this teacher-friendly, hands-on webinar will empower and inspire you to use learning technology in the classroom and for professional productivity. As appropriate, specific classroom examples and ideas have been shared. View the session with a few of your teaching colleagues to find and share new ideas. Find additional information and links to tools at the session resource page. Learn more about OK2Ask and upcoming sessions here.

Use this tool to enhance your writing and share it with students for their writing projects. Include Wordtune with writing lessons to explore different methods of stating information and techniques that make writing easier to read and more interesting to the reader. For example, take a random sentence from a piece of student writing and use Wordtune to analyze and offer options for stating the information differently. Ask students to explore and discuss the changes made, what changes made the sentence easier to understand, or find options that they don't find to be as clear as their original work.

SchoolStack is an instructional design system that provides tools for personalized learning options for students. After creating an account, the first step is designing or choosing lessons from SchoolStack's library. Lesson options include adding exit tickets or making tasks optional or required. Next, add assignments to a "stack," like creating a choice board of activities. Then, assign stacks to a whole class, groups, or individuals. Dashboards for students, teachers, and caregivers track students' progress throughout their lessons. Free accounts offer limited stack creation, limited access to the lesson library, and the ability to add one teacher collaborator.

tag(s): differentiation (83), personalized learning (9), playlists (10), remote learning (61), Teacher Utilities (146)

In the Classroom

Use SchoolStack to differentiate learning for different student needs and abilities by quickly modifying lesson activities to share with individual students or groups. Replace your current homework activities using SchoolStack to provide students with various options for completing learning activities. Offer activities that meet student interests and learning styles within each stack to encourage student interest and participation. When teaching blended learning or remote learning activities, use SchoolStack to share information with students and gather data and feedback from their participation in the lessons.

WellCheq is a digital application that provides a daily wellness check-in for students. Students log in each day and answer two questions - how are you feeling today, and how are you doing overall? This information is then immediately available to the teacher or counselor. WellCheq tracks both individual and class data over the short and long term. Students reporting a three (out of five) or lower are identified with an email to the teacher and go on the Students of Concern page. Students log in through the student portal to provide responses and access suggested resources. There is a link for students to ask for help using the "Cheq on me" button. Create and use a teacher account to add and manage classrooms and access reports. Reports include daily information, students of concern, as well as longitudinal class and student reports.

Social-emotional Learning (SEL) is the process by which students of all ages develop and use social and emotional skills, knowledge, and attitudes. Using SEL skills, students better understand emotion, manage their own, and show empathy towards others. SEL skills also help students set and achieve positive goals. Although this is an ongoing process through all grade levels, you can begin to instill these skills and understandings in even your youngest students. We encourage you to find appropriate tools and resources in this collection to use with your students and in your lessons.
