Story Time from Space is an educational project that features astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS) reading children's books, combining literature with science lessons from space. The website has a collection of videos where astronauts read various storybooks, making it an engaging way for children to learn about space and science. Along with the story readings, the site provides science experiments and demonstrations conducted in the space station's microgravity environment. This site contains lesson plans and student worksheets. The videos are hosted on YouTube. If your district blocks YouTube, then they may not be viewable.

In the Classroom
Have students watch experiments conducted in space to understand how microgravity affects various situations. Then, in groups, have students brainstorm and plan simple science experiments that could be conducted in space. Next, using a storyboard template from Canva found here, have students outline their experiment, hypothesize results in space versus on Earth, and present their ideas to the class. Have students write letters to an astronaut, asking questions about space, life on the ISS, or the books read. Have students watch an astronaut read a children's book aboard the International Space Station and then draw their favorite part of the story or an experiment shown in the video. They can use a digital drawing tool like Tux Paint, reviewed here to illustrate their ideas. These drawings can be compiled into a class science journal and shared with parents or other classes.

On this We Are Teachers page, find a curated list of virtual field trip resources to enhance students' learning experiences. These virtual experiences allow students to explore museums, historical sites, natural wonders, and other educational destinations from the comfort of their classrooms or homes! On this site, you'll find descriptions and links to various virtual field trip opportunities, and some resources provide tips for integrating them into lesson plans and activities. Many of these virtual trips are available on multiple YouTube channels. If your district blocks YouTube, the videos may not be viewable. In addition, some of these virtual field trips are sourced from several other sites and organizations; we advise that you review the privacy policies of these external sites to ensure compliance with their district's privacy policies.

Virtual field trips can immerse students in diverse learning experiences that allow teachers to go beyond the boundaries of their classroom. Find a virtual field trip that is relevant or connected to an upcoming unit. Begin by conducting an anonymous poll using a tool like Poll Everywhere, reviewed here or Mentimeter, reviewed here showing images from one of the virtual field trips you've chosen. Display images showcasing significant landmarks, main attractions, or features of the location. Students can post their wonderings, insights, or prior knowledge about the destination based solely on the images. This can ignite curiosity and generate excitement as students speculate about where the destination is. After gathering students' responses, announce that you'll be "taking them there" virtually through an upcoming virtual field trip! During the virtual field trip, integrate presentation tools using Pear Deck, reviewed here. Incorporate interactive question slides throughout the virtual field trip to prompt students to reflect on their learning, make connections, and apply their knowledge. You can even intersperse the presentation with interactive quizzes, polls, or collaborative brainstorming sessions. You can use this to keep the field trip active and engaging rather than a passive sit-and-get activity. Wrap it up by challenging students to become virtual field trip creators! Let them select a destination they want to "visit" and design an ideal virtual field trip experience for their peers. You can provide a template or criteria for students to consider when planning their virtual field trips. Students can use creation tools such as Google Slides, reviewed here or Canva Education Templates, reviewed here to create brochures or presentations that outline the details of their virtual field trip. Facilitate discussions about the podcasts, allowing students to share their favorite episodes and insights with their peers. You can use tools like Flip, reviewed here where students can record video responses discussing their favorite podcast episodes, or Padlet, reviewed here which offers a digital bulletin board for students to share insights and reflections. Integrate some of the podcasts into existing units of study as supplemental resources. For example, assign a relevant podcast from Julie's Library to complement a reading lesson. You can then provide guiding questions or reflection prompts to help students make connections between the podcast content and what they're learning in class. Here's a great blog post on Questioning Strateties that can help you craft those. Wrap it all up by giving students an opportunity to create their own podcasts. Choose from several free resources to create your podcasts. Spotify for Podcasters (was Anchor), reviewed here, Buzzsprout, reviewed here, and PodOmatic, reviewed here. This can be a great collaborative project where students work together to produce podcasts on topics of their choice or related to the unit of study. When finished, download your video clip as a PNG, animated PNG, or single frame. Free accounts limit clip lengths to five seconds.

Choose a background image of a city being studied, a different historical period, or a far-away setting like the moon, then place your student video on top. Imagine automatically creating a video from a written description. That's a fantastic prospect, and it is now possible using the magic of Invideo AI. invideo AI turns your ideas into videos in just a few short minutes. After creating an account, select the link to make a video. In the chat space, describe in detail and provide instructions for completing the video using up to 3600 characters. After adding the description, choose the button to generate the video and wait for the magic to happen. Creating videos will take a few minutes. Once your video is generated, use the available tools to regenerate if changes are desired, or choose to export the video when ready. Download the video to your device in mp4 format and select from the available options for video quality. Share videos with students from your device, using the provided link, or export videos to YouTube, reviewed here. Free accounts offer ten minutes per week of video generation, 10 GB of storage, and four exports weekly with the invideo logo. Create and customize artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots in a secure, COPPA-compliant setting with Mizou. Customize chatbots using your materials, instructions, and rubrics and share them securely with students. Personalize the appearance as desired and include text, audio, and images. Receive instant feedback that identifies areas of students' strengths and weaknesses of the content. Mizou also offers a searchable library of content available to add to your workspace to use as is or to edit to fit your needs. Share chatbots with students by launching a new session and providing students with the URL or QR code. Students share their names to access the chat; directions and responses are available as text or audio.

In the Classroom
Use Mizou in many different ways to engage students in learning. For example, when teaching the novel 1984, use the chat in Mizou's library with George Orwell to engage in critical thinking activities that explore the themes and ties to the modern world shared in the novel. Use the chats to assist students in reviewing vocabulary by selecting the Spreadsheet Vocabulary Review chat and modifying the language to fit your needs. Search by grade level or topic to find options for almost any subject and topic. This helpful site supports learning about and using text sets in the classroom for all grades. Enroll in the free, self-paced course to learn about text set design and how to use text sets to build student knowledge and vocabulary in any subject. Visit the links at the top of the site to find downloadable text sets categorized by elementary, middle, and high school. Within each category, the text sets are then organized into grade levels. Download a planning guide with links to resources and activities for each text set offered. In addition, each set includes separate links to additional resources such as student work samples, KWL charts, and more. Remember to visit the Support for Struggling Readers section to access rubrics and ideas to teach text structure, language features, knowledge demands, and purpose/meaning.

Find materials to differentiate learning for all students by browsing through the different grade-level offerings to find materials that meet the needs of students who need additional support and resources that challenge gifted learners. EduEase automatically creates multiple-choice quizzes from any PDF document using artificial intelligence (AI). Begin by uploading your document and then wait for it to process. After processing, click on the document's title to open the quiz. Use options to add questions, delete, or edit content. Share your quiz in several ways, such as copying the share link, using the provided QR code, or exporting it to Moodle. EduEase records results as students post responses for use in analyzing student responses.

Use EduEase to create quizzes as a formative assessment to guide instruction quickly. For example, set-up a short quiz based on your end-of-unit assessment to determine your student's current understanding of the material, focus on content that needs to be learned, and differentiate instruction as needed. Share EduEase with students to review study materials and prepare for tests. EduEase currently only accepts PDF documents; use Tiny Wow, reviewed here to easily convert images, PowerPoints, Word documents, and more to PDF documents.

DesignCap provides a quick and easy infographic maker for you to use. No expertise in graphic design is necessary. First, create an account with Google, Facebook, or your email. Next, choose "Infographic" from the left menu. You can then choose the format of infographic you wish to create, such as Process, Timeline, Health, and several others. Once you have the format you want, choose "Customize." You can select a different font and size, upload images from your computer or their library, change the background, and more. When finished, save your infographic to work on or view later or download it to your computer.

Introduce DesignCap's infographic templates found on the left menu. Ask students to select one that appeals to them, and then create one as a class for a concept you just learned or as a review for a test. Show on your whiteboard or with a projector how to select a template or create your own, where to find the image library, and how to upload your own images. Once the class has saved the infographic, you can have them create infographics on their own to include in multimedia reports, as a book report, as a study aid for a test, or to show what they've learned from a unit of study.
