Customize and share personalized Wordles based upon the popular word game, Wordle, reviewed here using Make a Custom Wordle. Enter a word of any length (unlike the original word for five-letter words only) to generate a shareable link for your word. Make a Custom Wordle also offers the option to create words in several languages, including Spanish, French, Hindi, and German. Share the link with students using email, classroom management system, or class website. When complete, copy the URL to share by pasting it into an email or your blog or classroom website.

tag(s): game based learning (171), sight words (22), spelling (95), vocabulary (234)

In the Classroom

Use this Wordle generator in various ways in any classroom for increasing problem-solving and strategy skills. When using with young students, generate three or four-letter Wordles for students to attempt with partners. Provide a list of sight words if needed to avoid frustration. When teaching older students, develop Wordles to solve using vocabulary words, weekly spelling lists, science terms, or historical characters. Provide this site to students and create Wordles to share with their peers. Include a link on classroom computers during computer centers or as an activity when finished with daily assignments. Using this site is an excellent way to include ENL/ESL students in classroom activities by creating a word from their native language. Include others in your school community or parents by developing and sharing Wordles for your school or classroom site. Your imagination only limits the possibilities of creating and sharing personalized Wordles!

Votes for Women - The 19th Amendment is part of the TeachersFirst Help! I lost my media/library specialist collection found here that features topics and resources that focus on integrating research with technology. Information begins with a short introductory paragraph about the 19th Amendment and extensive background information. The Activities section shares suggested book lists, primary sources, and a WebQuest research project. Continue down the site to find Extension activities that incorporate research skills into additional classroom opportunities such as debates and documentary creation. Ideas found on this resource include correlation to ISTE and AASL National School Library Standards.

Begin by browsing through the many suggested classroom activities found in this resource. Organize a suggested book list or research resources for students using a curation tool like Symbaloo, reviewed here, as means for organizing information into one place. Sort items in your Symbaloo by using the color-coding option for the icons. For example, make book suggestions blue, primary source links yellow, etc. As students prepare to share their research and final projects, provide options for sharing information. Suggest students make a presentation with Google Slides, reviewed here, a video using Adobe Creative Cloud Express Video Maker, reviewed here, or a multimedia presentation created with Sway, reviewed here.

Vizzlo is a free chart maker site offering a wide variety of options for sharing data in different formats. Get inspired by visiting the gallery to view examples of the layouts and means for sharing data. To begin creating, sign in to your account and select "Create." If you know the type of chart you want, use the keyword search to find it. Next, browse through the page to see examples, or use the filters to find options by use, type, and alphabetical list. The possibilities include well-known charts, including timeline creators and pie charts, along with less familiar varieties such as puzzle charts. Select a chart to begin creating by using the features found on the dashboard. Personalize data, colors, and the page setup. When complete, download as a PNG image, share a link by email or embed the code into a website. Free plans offer many features and access to a wide variety of charts; however, all charts created using a free plan will include Vizzlo's dominant watermark on the image.

In the Classroom

Bookmark this site to share data through many different formats and representations. Collect data in your classroom and quickly create a graph to represent it, then choose another design to share the data in another way. Share your charts by adding links or uploading images to blogs, wikis, or websites--share graphs on an interactive whiteboard or projector for better data analysis by the class. Graph results of a test, answers from students, favorite foods, fictitious budgets, class schedules, and anything applicable in your classroom. Use an informational text, and have students create a pie chart to understand how to read charts accompanying the nonfiction texts. Have cooperative learning groups create graphs to share on the class wiki. Create quick pie charts on your interactive whiteboard whenever you count class votes or encounter other data so students "see" data visualized regularly; visual students will have another way to absorb the information. Keep the link handy on your web page for you and your students to access it quickly in or out of class.

Include Glorify as part of your teacher toolbox as a resource when creating graphic designs for classroom use and student-created projects. Share Glorify and a couple of other graphic design tools such as Canva Edu, reviewed here, and Genially, reviewed here, with students to provide options for creating and including information on presentations. Enhance learning by asking students to create short tutorials for using the features in Glorify using a screen recording tool such as Free Screen Recorder Online, reviewed here. Share the tutorials on your class playlist created on YouTube, reviewed here, or as a link on your class webpage. In the younger grades, teachers would create projects; however, older students can easily create their own Glorify presentations. Have students use this online tool as they would any presentation tool or image enhancing site. Use this site for research projects about famous people from the past and present. Have cooperative learning groups create presentations about science or math topics. Have students create presentations to "introduce" themselves to the class during the first week of school. Link or embed the introduction presentations on your class wiki or website and have others guess who they are.

Once you understand why hexagons help develop understanding through connections and interactions with shared information, this generator will become one of your favorite tools for classroom use! Learn more about classrooms uses for hexagons at this blog post written by the site's creator. Print the blank hexagons for use when developing units of study as a visual representation of connections to teaching during the study. Ask students to complete and connect hexagons when preparing research papers or as a guide for studying for upcoming tests and quizzes. Replace a timeline with hexagons to connect events and dates, use colors to code information by location, time, or important people. Include a link to a hexagon worksheet when preparing blended learning or remote learning lessons. For example, create a complete guided learning activity using Curipod, reviewed here, that includes videos, quizzes, and a hexagon activity. Have students create their hexagon presentations within a Google Document using the insert shape feature and select hexagon. Copy and paste, then add hexagons to customize by changing colors adding text and images to share information. In addition, customize wheels for creative story writing prompts that include options for random characters, setting, and story theme. Use this tool to practice math facts by creating wheels that prompt players to solve math problems based upon a spin of the wheel. Engage students when reviewing for upcoming quizzes and tests by creating wheels to check facts. For example, in social studies, create one wheel with names and another with characteristics such as date, place, important event, other characters involved, etc. Use during math lessons on probability to have students record outcomes when spinning the wheel.

This fascinating lesson plan includes six teaching activities that focus on how civil rights activists used the power of song to share their message of equal justice under the law for all. The lesson begins with guiding questions and stated learning objectives aligned to Social Studies and Common Core literacy standards. Then, students listen to several songs from the 1960s and analyze the lyrics to understand the civil rights messages during their study of the materials. This lesson includes links to all media and music referenced within the activities.

tag(s): 1960s (27), black history (121), civil rights (193), martin luther king (43), oral history (14)

In the Classroom

Integrate this lesson into your teaching about civil rights, Freedom Fighters, or the 1960s to engage students in learning about this period through music. Enhance learning by dividing students into groups to analyze different songs, then ask them to share their findings with the class by sharing a presentation created using one of the tools found at Adobe Creative Cloud Express for Education, reviewed here. After viewing the presentations, encourage students to look for similarities within each message. Use Answer Garden, reviewed here, to post a question and ask students to post responses to create a word cloud. For example, ask each group to share important words or concepts from their song, then view the word cloud to understand overlapping content. As a final activity, extend learning by asking students to create interactive timelines that include important civil rights events, 1960s music, and highlights of civil rights leaders' activities. Use a timeline creation tool such as Time Graphics Timeline Maker, reviewed here, or the timeline feature found in Padlet, reviewed here. Using either option, ask students to include links to videos, recordings, and discussions of the civil rights events.

In the Classroom

This tool is perfect for enhancing, modifying, or transforming classroom technology in the classroom, depending on the requirements of the assignments. Create invitations, flyers, or newsletters for your classroom. Share what you created on your website or blog for students to review or for absent students. Deliver blended or flipped lessons using Desygner by adding links to videos, assessment information, and other learning activities. In the younger grades, teachers would be the ones creating the project. However, older students could easily create their own Desygner presentations. Use this tool with your 1:1 art class to practice design principles and techniques. Share student projects with parents and others via URL. Be sure to demonstrate how to use this tool on your interactive whiteboard or projector or create a series of video instructions. Use Free Screen Recorder Online, reviewed here, to create and share video screencast tutorials.

Bookmark #GoOpenVA to use as your first stop in lesson planning. Take advantage of the search filters to narrow down the content and grade-level information to suit your needs. This website is also an excellent resource for finding materials to differentiate instruction. Use higher-level activities to challenge gifted students and search for content for remediation. As you gather resources into a collection, or lesson plans, be sure to think about ways to incorporate technology in meaningful ways to enhance and extend learning.
