Create a customized avatar by scrolling down the page and selecting any easy-to-use template provided on Adobe Express. Each template includes options to choose from and select facial features to make a one-of-a-kind avatar. In addition, the templates offer several looks that serve as the starting point for the avatar. To begin, choose a template and login into your Adobe account. Next, drag and drop features onto the face outline to create your desired look. Additional options allow avatar creators to change the background, add text, icons, and more to personalize the slide. When finished, select the download link to save to your device as a JPEG, PNG, or PDF file.

Include this site in many classroom activities in many different learning activities. For example, ask students to design an avatar for a character in a book they are reading and add text about their character. Create avatars for famous people in history to summarize their stories. Ask students to create avatars to use for reports and blog posts. For example, when using edublogs, reviewed here, ask students to add their avatar image to their blog post as a replacement for a picture. Ask students to create avatars for parent/teacher conferences. When conferencing with the parent, share their student's avatar on the interactive whiteboard or within your remote conferencing app. Ask the student to include text that tells about their educational progress. Email signup isn't required; scroll past that portion at the top of the page to browse the content. Images include well-known entertainers, sports, political figures, and pictures commemorating everyday events. In addition, each entry has a link to a New York Times article.

In the Classroom
This page is perfect for sharing with students to explore and find people and events of interest. The page is quite lengthy; if looking for specific information such as an event in a particular city or a person, use the search for text feature on your computer to find that information. On a Mac, use "Command+F"; on a Windows device, use "Ctrl+F"; another method for easier viewing is to click on the magnifying glass found on the bottom, left-hand corner of an image. This option allows viewers to scroll through a slide show of the images that include a short description of the activity. As students find information to research further, use the Wikipedia Timeline Generator found at Class Tools, reviewed here, to view a chronological list of events related to that person or event. Use other templates found in class tools to extend learning further. For example, use the Venn Diagram generator to organize and understand overlapping events and people involved or ask students to use the Fakebook generator to create a fictional social profile for one of the people featured on the New York Times page. Extend learning by asking students to become reporters and write news articles about current or past Black History events not found in this article. Learn more about classrooms uses for hexagons at this blog post written by the site's creator. Print the blank hexagons for use when developing units of study as a visual representation of connections to teaching during the study. Ask students to complete and connect hexagons when preparing research papers or as a guide for studying for upcoming tests and quizzes. Replace a timeline with hexagons to connect events and dates, use colors to code information by location, time, or important people. Include a link to a hexagon worksheet when preparing blended learning or remote learning lessons. Simultaneously spinning multiple wheels opens the door to unlimited uses to engage students. For example, create six wheels with the numbers on dice as a virtual dice roller. In addition, customize wheels for creative story writing prompts that include options for random characters, setting, and story theme. Use this tool to practice math facts by creating wheels that prompt players to solve math problems based upon a spin of the wheel. Engage students when reviewing for upcoming quizzes and tests by creating wheels to check facts. Include this article with your other digital citizenship lessons as a starting point for classroom discussions or as part of a broader lesson in responsible citizenship. Consider selecting a tip each week to explore further with your class. Engage students by beginning the week using a word cloud creation tool like Answer Garden, reviewed here. Continue to build upon your students' ideas throughout the week using Google Jamboard, reviewed here, to create a template for students to share digital stickers with information. For example, the fourth tip recommends that all online users carefully craft their message. Create a Jamboard divided into columns labeled grammar, clarity, and audience. When crafting online content, ask students to share specific ways to keep these topics in mind. Both images are similar in appearance; however, shadowing provides subtle depth to the icon. Browse through the site to find available icons such as plants, classroom items, and much more. Click on any image to select the free version download. After selecting a download, images are downloaded to your computer in a zip file. Open the zip file to view and use the PNG image file.

Discovery Education offers curated calendars of ready-to-use activities for grades K-8. Activities are available in three grade bands and include virtual field trips, reading passages, and more in all content areas. Create an account to begin exploring and using the calendar activities. After reaching the Activity Center, find the three calendars for the current month. Next, use the "Prior Months" tab to find the previous calendars. Each calendar opens up as a full-screen, interactive resource. Click on any day's activity to open the item and view the instructions. Select the "Teachers Notes" icon to view attribution for the images used and suggestions, quiz answers, or other additional information when included.
