Bridge to Terabithia - Novel STufy Page Grades 6 to 7 Privately Published

Brian Thorton offers a series of study questions for review or discussion of Katherine Paterson’s emotional story of friendship. Teachers need to note that these questions cannot be copied without specific consent of the publisher. The guide consist of questions, vocabulary words and an enrichment activity for each chapter of the book. The enrichment activities are well thought out and refer students to other literary works, or to create their own written pieces.

Bridge to Terabithia - Study Guide Grades 6 to 8 Glencoe

Here’s a well organized PDF reading guide by Glencoe. The lessons are grouped in four chapter reading segments, each group of chapters is divided into three parts: Before You Read, Active Reading, and Responding. The guides are well thought out and will prompt students to write, create cluster diagrams, and complete comparison charts for the story’s characters, plot, and climax. After completing the novel, students are asked to read five extension assignments in various other forms of literature and relate them to the book’s central themes. Teachers will be able to use this guide as a ‘turn key’ approach to teaching this thoughtful novel.

This is the official homepage of award-winning author Katherine Paterson, author of Bridge to Terabithia. (Newberry 1978). Site includes an annotated booklist, frequently asked questions, audio of songs from stage productions of some of her books and links to Amazon.com to purchase titles. Although she is a well-loved and respected author, this site is a bit disappointing – lacking lessons, activities, or other enhancements.

This site created by Carol Hurst, offers lesson plans for Katherine Paterson’s historical novel about a young woman caught in a factory job during the Industrial Revolution. Students are asked to discussion thought provoking questions, explore activities that analyze the main character’s personal growth, and research different aspects of the era of Industrial Revolution. The J Murray Atkins Library at UNC offers a fine array of online curriculum. This site begins with Reading and Writing questions that teachers can use to guide the study of Katherine Paterson’s work. The lessons include vocabulary, spelling, library resources and some great ideas teachers can use to connect the book to other strands in the curriculum. Lyddie - Teacher Cyber Guide Grades 7 to 9 SCORE

Mary Jewel designs a lesson for SCORE that explores the issues and experiences of factory life and immigration, and the rights of workers and women. There are 5 activities to prompt students to research the internet and learn about life in 1840’s New England, and the final activity asks students to create a Hyper Studio game using the collected knowledge. Teachers will find this unit easy to use with the 8th Grade California Content Standards and the rubics for assessment and grading.
