Question:
Summer is a favorite time for teachers. Which do you look forward to most about summer: the change in routine, the time for personal learning, the time with your own family, or something else?

Summer is a precious and much needed time for teachers. For me, it is a time to read--for pleasure and for personal and professional growth. It is also a time to reflect on the past year and make changes for the coming year. In addition, it is a time to pursue classes that I just don't have time for during the school year.

The change in routine is a big one for me, as well as having the time to prepare an entirely new lesson plan for the coming year. I also use this time to do some personal learning.

During the summer, I look forward to having time to do the things I can't do during the school year such as sleeping in, visiting with out-of-town friends, painting the house, taking endorsement classes, planning new lessons, and counting my new gray hairs from the previous school year.

Each year I look forward to the summer vacation so that I can spend more time with my family, catch up on reading and doing fun things around the house, such as sewing, reorganizing, decorating and cooking healthy meals. I also like to travel to visit relatives who live out-of-town, especially my first grandchild who was born last November and lives with his mom and dad in New Hampshire. I like to relax in the pool, play with my dogs, browse the stores, listen to music, and catch up on movies I have missed.
