It is important that the students learn to respect one another... to build a community of learners.

I teach kindergarten, and the most important routine of the day is "Morning Meeting" where everyone assembles on the carpet to learn about what's coming up in the day, and to do quick daily curriculum enhancing activities such as 100 day count up and subtraction, calendar, weather report, nursery rhymes, Friday poem, storytime, job assignments and much more. My classes have all been equally enthusiastic about this coming together time, so much so that if we have to skip for any reason, I can be sure I'll have plenty of reminders to have an impromptu meeting during the day.

Morning meeting just sets the tone for the rest of the day.
