Question of the Week Archives

Question:

Earth Day is this week. What, if anything, will you do in your classes/school in conjunction with this annual observance?

I have a kindergarten class. My class will begin by naming and re-defining natural resources that we have learned about previously this year. We'll find out how Earth Day started and talk about what our families do to help take care of the Earth. On another day, we'll talk about the job of a mother and compare the Earth to a mother... we'll read a Mother Earth story and talk about the natural resources and animals that live on Earth and how Earth is like a mother trying to provide us with things we need in order to take care of us. We'll continue learning about plants in our literacy unit too. We will talk about the 3 Rs of rduce, reuse, recycle... learn a few sons and on Friday the entire kindergarten will be outside planting flowers and bushes around our school. That is how we will celebrate and learn about Earth Day.

Our media/technology class will be creating layered excel templates on labeling plant parts, recycling, and caterpillar to butterfly growth stages. It should be fun and interesting.

ONTARIO
All the students were given a paper footprint made from recycled paper (that which had only been used on one side). Each student has written their idea on the footprint for how they can help the Earth, and the ideas are going to be displayed and hopefully carried out for the remainder of the school year.
