Question:
Which month of the school year is your favorite time to teach? Do you prefer the late spring, when students are familiar with class routine and rigor? Or perhaps you like the freshness of the new school year? Tell us your favorite month to teach -- and why.

I really enjoy both times. I am fresh and ready for a new school year and enjoy meeting my new students. The end of the year is also a positive time because my students and I have developed into a learning community that is comfortable with each other. It is with some sadness that I tell them good-bye and send them off to the high school.

I try to send an email to parents to share some positive aspect of their child's accomplishments in my classroom. Many parents only receive the negative remarks. I have received emails back relating how wonderful it was to get some positive feedback about their child.

October, because they are back in the routine, it hasn't been too long in school, and I know what they know and where they need to go.

My classes are comprised of all seniors. I prefer the beginning of the year when there is some excitement about their senior year and they still can focus on high school. As we get farther into the year their focus changes to what they will do after graduation. They get "senioritis".
