Question of the Week Archives

Question:

Many teachers use summer as a chance to take graduate course work. If you could take a graduate course and have the tuition paid for, what would you like to study so you could continue to grow as a teacher? What is your "dream class"?

Technology in the classroom, tech for writing, tech for intervention, tech for assessment

My dream class, would be the one that offers me the knowledge to build a virtual school environment for elementary level.

FL
A class that would help me have more student centered units instead of me talking all the time. I teach English Honors to freshmen and I fine that they depend on me to "explain" everything. I want to get away from this practive with more responsibility on them.

CA
Just the time to investigate technology and have it set up to use in the classroom so that I am more prepared to share with my students.

CA.
A graduate class on immediately implementing differentiated teaching strategies within the classroom. Since students learn in different ways (Gardner's multiple intelligences) and at different capacities ( advanced, on-target, and slow learners), it would be advantageous for a teacher to be able to immediately recognize their students' strengths and weaknesses and have accessible the strategies clearly indentified for each of these intelligences and learning capacities that coincides with the school's pacing guides.

I would love to teach environmental science and have not been able to justify the cost of the program in comparison to how long I might yet teach. However, I do try to make time to take any less costly courses that are in that field.

Although I am a "computer teacher" my job involves much more than just teaching students how to use technology resources. I must also keep our computers and our network running. I would love to take a class that would teach me how to do that, since most of what I do is trial and error or things that I've taught myself. I'd also love to learn about all the wonderful Web 2.0 tools that are out there and how to use them effectively with students. Your OK2Ask sessions are helpful in that area! Thanks!

I would love to take a flash course, a geometer's scetchpad course, and anything ed tech.

I would like to join some interdisciplinary research course which will help me exhume more and would help proliferating references. A course in psychology is also considerable.I love to study people and this helps me with students also.
