The Doodles and Digits website provides engaging math videos designed to make learning fun and accessible for children. These videos cover various foundational math topics, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and fractions, presented in a simple and creative format. Through colorful animations and clear explanations, the platform helps children build confidence in their math skills while making complex concepts easier to understand. It's a valuable resource for educators and parents to support math learning enjoyably and interactively. The videos are hosted on YouTube. If your district blocks YouTube, then they may not be viewable.

During the video, pause at strategic points and ask students to predict the next step or answer, or add questions by using Edpuzzle, reviewed here or Playposit, reviewed here. After a video on a topic like multiplication, assign a group challenge. For example, students can solve multi-step problems collaboratively or compete in a "math relay." Set up math stations around the classroom, each focused on a skill featured in a video (ex., addition, fractions). At one station, students can rewatch the video or complete a related digital quiz. After watching a video, students create a journal entry summarizing the concept. They can include drawings, diagrams, or step-by-step problem-solving examples. Use a paper journal or create a digital one using Book Creator, reviewed here.

The website "The Percent Progress Game" offers an interactive tool to enhance students' estimation skills and number sense. In this game, players estimate the percentage of a gray bar that has been shaded green, with their score reflecting the accuracy of their guesses--the closer the estimate to the actual percentage, the better the score. After ten rounds, a final score is presented, encouraging improvement in estimation abilities.

Use Padlet, reviewed here for students to create and share videos. Have students view each other's videos, then discuss the variety of perspectives and styles, deepening their understanding of storytelling. Assign students a historical figure to research, then have them create a short "video diary" as that person during a key event. Students can create short videos explaining a science topic, like the water cycle or photosynthesis. In small groups, students create short videos demonstrating how to solve a math problem or explain a concept, like fractions or basic geometry.

Virtual Musical Instruments opens up the world of music into many other subjects. In music class, discover the different instruments, sounds, and rhythms the virtual instruments can produce. Allow your students to make their own compositions. Challenge them to determine a way to give the directions for their composition to another person so that they can repeat the original piece. In language arts class, discuss mood in literature. Determine the instruments used, the rhythms, and sounds needed to make that effect. During Readers' Theater, add a musical score for more excitement and engagement with further analysis of the text. Have students create a musical composition that tells a story. Now, play that musical story for the class, and turn it into a writing prompt. Use musical sounds and beats to illustrate the concepts of literature and the use of plot. Determine a melody for each character. Write to explain why each character has that musical composition. Math class brings the study of fractions with types of notes: whole note, half note, quarter note, and eighth notes. Let students create a musical sentence that represents them and write to explain why. Use whatever recording option is most practical in your classroom.
