Although this page has been archived and is no longer updated, all links are functional. This "drag and drop" activity challenges students to put fractions in order from the lowest to the highest. Scroll to the bottom of this teacher page to find the activity. The activity continues to offer new numbers and options, so you may "play" as often as you wish. The activity offers a full screen option. There is also a link for reviewing information or introducing the topic (Revision Bite) and an online quiz. The entire interactive is embeddable by copying/pasting the "code" into your class web page or wiki.

Share this site with your students on your interactive whiteboard or projector. Use the Revision Bite as an anticipatory set for a lesson about fractions. Then use the activities and online quiz as enhancements to your lesson (or even AS the lesson). The site is ready to go, easy to follow, educational, and simple for both teachers and students to use. Why not have students work in groups and create their own interactive fraction activities using PowerPoint (including graphics), or even create their own videos demonstrating fractions and share them on TeacherTube (explained here).

This is a fabulous website for all levels of fraction instruction (there are five difficulty levels). The website offers both interactive challenges and printable worksheets. Students will love the pizza fun and other graphics used at this website - check it out. Level 2 is a TERRIFIC way to help students read fraction markings on a ruler, always a challenge for some. Some of the activities require Flash, get it from the TeachersFirst Toolbox page..

Don't be fooled by the "plain Jane" look of this site or its slightly quirky search interface. Beneath it all lies a treasure trove of math lessons, activities, and games for elementary, middle school, and high school students. The site also includes a number of resources specifically for teachers. There's a real international flavor to the content, so math teachers will need to choose appropriate resources carefully. Still, there's much to use here.

Compare fractions within squares, circles, and the number line with this activity. Create fractions that are provided and construct your own original fractions. Two shapes are provided to create the given fractions, once they are correctly made a third box appears to create an additional fraction that sits between the original amounts on the number line. Be sure to check out the instructor tab for an explorations worksheet, links to standards, classroom suggestions, and additional similar resources.

Provide students with the printable explorations worksheet to practice creating and ordering fractions. Introduce the site on your interactive whiteboard or projector as an introduction to comparing and ordering fractions. Have students take turns manipulating the whiteboard as they learn the site (and new skills). This activity would work well for individual or pairs of students to use on classroom computers. Provide this link on your class website for students to access both in and out of the classroom.
