This site documents a Diego Rivera mural, Pan-American Unity, created in San Francisco in 1940 for an exposition there. The site includes both overviews of the mural panels as well as a video showing highly detailed segments of the artwork. An interesting presentation of this resource.

In the Classroom

Read about the different panels in partners or small groups, or at a classroom computer center for students to access independently. Then consider having students watch the silent 15-minute video either at home or at the computer center as a small group, in partners, or independently. Have them write down questions about the part or parts they would like to know more about. This video isn't download-able or a YouTube or Vimeo, so the best way for students to identify the part(s) they're interested in would be to have them describe the part they want to know more about using a journaling tool like Penzu. With Penzu they can add their own artwork as illustrations. Instead of journaling, students could use a tool such as Screen-cast-o-matic, to capture the image on their screen and annotate it either in text or verbally.
