This site shares a large variety of virtual math manipulatives that are useful for many occasions. Select from virtual dice, number lines, place value disks, and much more. It even includes play money from several locations around the world! Many of the virtual manipulatives include interactive content to adjust settings, change color, and suggestions for use. Most items also include a link to further explanation of how to teach the content along with links to printables and worksheets.

In the Classroom

If you teach elementary math, this site is a must-have to include with your bookmarked sites. Include manipulatives from this site with blended learning and remote teaching lessons to provide students opportunities to explore and practice math content. Include a link to manipulatives and other student sites using Symbaloo, reviewed here, and share with students as a resource for practicing math concepts. Items to include might be instructional videos, online games, and other practice activities. Add manipulatives within a learning system such as TES Teach Blendspace, reviewed here, to create a complete online lesson that has opportunities for students to share and discuss their learning. Encourage students to share their findings by creating a screen recording using Free Screen Recorder Online, reviewed here. Ask students to conduct a math talk as a response to a teacher prompt after having the opportunity to explore and interact with the virtual manipulatives.

Education Unboxed is a site put together by a homeschooling mom to help explain math concepts primarily through the use of Cuisinaire rods. Topics include preschool and kindergarten concepts all the way through algebra. Short videos demonstrate and explain each topic. Many topics include explanations of games and activities for practice. Although simple in look, this site is a rich resource for any elementary or middle school classroom.

View videos as a class on your interactive whiteboard or projector. Use code provided with videos to embed on your classroom blog or website or share using urls provided. This site contains more than 4,800 (at the time of this review) math problems for students pre-kindergarten to high school. There are activities/math problems learning to count, write numbers, understand place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, prime numbers, composite numbers, least common multiples, greatest common factors, factoring whole numbers, fractions and lots more. The site is divided into topics such as word problems, geometry, telling time, and others. Each portion contains a section on tips and tricks section that explains the concept including vocabulary and illustrations. Be sure to also check out the resources section for printable graph paper, number lines, and an assignment measure graph for keeping track of student progress. This site has some interactive activities and many printable pages.

Have students add up sums of counters placed onto the 100 chart. Use this site to teach younger students HOW to count to 100 and the value/idea of 100. Demonstrate multiples of factors when teaching multiplication facts. Use on the interactive whiteboard or projector when teaching number sense to highlight odd and even numbers. Highlight prime numbers when learning prime and composite. Make this an interactive whiteboard center for students to practice or challenge each other with multiples questions. Visual and tactile learners can get "in touch" with numbers!

In addition to being kid-friendly and engaging, kids will enjoy the animation and bright colors. The advertisements are a bit of a distraction.

A great website for a math game day due to the variety of concepts and levels. Use these activities as an informal assessment by observing students as they engage. Try using an interactive whiteboard to encourage friendly competition when students individual laptops are not available.
