Use this site as a tool to helping students understand the historical context of events, and as an activator to new units. Simply type in the year being studied to access a summary article of the big events that happened. The articles are mostly western-centric, but for an American or European history class it is still a useful tool.

The Southern Poverty Law Center is a large, multifaceted organization working for racial justice in the south and beyond. The site uses a three-pronged approach to dealing with racial and social injustice. The three methods include monitoring hate groups and extremists, using the court system to advance reform, and education provided through it's Learning for Justice program.

Enhance the foreign language curriculum through the integration of geography, food, and literature as related to Spanish culture. Students analyze literature created by modern Latino authors who use foods as symbols for identity, patriotism, religion, and nostalgia. This series of lessons promotes understanding of the Creole culture as it exists on the Caribbean islands of Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.
