Take the free discussion-based edtech tool Flipgrid, add a well-crafted lesson and a dash of any content area at any grade level, and then stir in a heaping serving of critical thinking, creativity, and student voice. Voila, you have a fun formative assessment to inform your instruction. Fliphunts are video-based scavenger hunts organized within Flipgrid -- get kids active in kinesthetic learning while immersing them in content. Challenge your students to show-what-they-know with a Fliphunt. Make room in your lesson plans for Fliphunts. As a result of this session, teachers will: 1. Learn the basic use of Flipgrid to record responses and set up a grid; 2. Understand ways to use Fliphunts as formative assessment; and 3. Learn how Fliphunts are created. This session is appropriate for teachers at all technology levels.

Engage students in learning about the coronavirus by sharing this link with students on your class website. Ask them to browse through information on the site, including opinion pieces as a starting point for writing an opinion piece. Guide students toward learning techniques for presenting a persuasive argument by viewing the site ProCon, reviewed here, to demonstrate methods for sharing both sides of an argument. Take advantage of the many picture prompts shared by the New York Times to encourage student creativity. Use Flipgrid, reviewed here, to promote student voice by sharing a picture prompt from this site and asking students to share their ideas. Create, teach, and manage online learning with Eduflow's learning management system. Create a course from scratch or begin with one of the provided templates. Use the links within each activity to personalize the course offering and upload files. Adjust the submission settings and rules to define course deadlines, options for editing after submission, and to add prerequisites necessary before allowing access to individual activities. Invite students to join the course using their email address. Once added, your teacher dashboard will show student progress within each course. Free accounts offer one instructor the ability to provide three active courses with 50 students in each course and limit student uploads to 10mb/file.

Use Eduflow's features to deliver blended learning opportunities to students in a variety of teaching settings. Differentiate learning by ability or student interest. Offer remote learning opportunities for students who are away from school for an extended time. Offer additional support and collaboration opportunities for students using Padlet, reviewed here. Create a Padlet that includes links to online resources used during your course or as a collaboration tool for students to share ideas and resources. Instead of written reports, extend learning and ask students to create explainer videos using Biteable, reviewed here, and have them share a link to their video as part of their response within Eduflow.

Ask students to create timelines using Timelinely, reviewed here, that includes maps, videos, and links to relevant information as a way to understand the complete picture of world events. For students who enjoy drama or journalism, ask them to produce podcasts using Buzzsprout, reviewed here. Use podcasts for students to role-play events throughout history as told from a variety of perspectives.

Microsoft Whiteboard is a digital online whiteboard web tool that integrates with Microsoft 365 Education products. The whiteboard includes features for adding collaborators through Teams or by email invitation. Use the tools on the whiteboard to draw, type, add images, and much more. Your whiteboards save automatically to the cloud for easy access at any time or from any device. Sign in to your school's Microsoft 365 account or follow the directions to download the app for Windows or iOS. The download provides additional resources beyond what is available on school accounts.

In the Classroom

Use Microsoft Whiteboard to collaborate with students to share and organize information instantly. Use the whiteboard through Microsoft's Teams to differentiate instruction with groups of students. Allow students to create collaborative drawings as responses to literature. They can map out the plot or themes, add labels, create character studies, and more. Share the finished products on an interactive whiteboard, projector, or your class website. Have a group of students create a drawing so that another group can use it as a writing prompt. Use the whiteboard as a brainstorming or sketching space as groups (or the class) share ideas for a major project or for solving a real-world problem. Use this site in a computer lab (or on laptops) to create a drawing of the setting in a story as it is read aloud. As an assessment idea, have students draw out a simple cartoon with stick figures to explain a more complex process such as how democracy works. If you are lucky enough to teach in a BYOD setting, have a blended classroom, or are distance teaching, use Microsoft Whiteboard to demonstrate and illustrate any concept while students use the chat and drawing tools to interact in real-time. If you are studying weather, have students diagram the layers of the atmosphere and what happens during a thunderstorm, for example. Introduce this tool to students who are working on group projects. Alternatively, have students use this to work as partners or as a small team to complete complex math problems or equations. Give students a question by typing it on their whiteboard.

Sync is a free summer audiobook program for teens. The program runs for 13 weeks starting on April 30 and provides participants with two thematically paired audio books weekly. After enrolling with Sync, follow the directions to download the Sora app from iTunes or Google Play. Use the explore feature within the app to find and borrow weekly titles. Be sure to view the FAQ for additional information on accessing and participating in Sync.

Share Sync with your students to promote summer reading and provide a variety of reading topics. If it is too late to participate in the program or listen to a weekly title, use the book list provided to locate the titles in your community library for checkout either in person or digitally. Encourage students to reflect upon the books using journals such as those found in BoomWriter, reviewed here. BoomWriter journals offer the ability to add prompts to sections of journals, enter vocabulary terms, and view and respond to student journals. Extend student learning by highlighting important areas of text within the books using Wordsift, reviewed here. Copy and paste in key portions of any book into WordSift to visualize the text within a word cloud. Use the word cloud to explore and discuss new vocabulary or frequently used terms. Use Sync as a model for students to hear text read using intonation and phrasing. Ask students to create podcasts sharing their writing using Anchor, reviewed here. Refer students back to the audiobooks they listened to as a helpful reminder on how to engage listeners through the spoken word.

Book titles change often, check this site regularly to find class sets and individual titles to add to your classroom library. Share your wish list with parents and your school's parent/teacher organization to request funding for shipping charges. Because many titles come in cartons of eight or more books, work with peers to create class sets of books to share across classrooms and grade levels.
