Take a virtual field trip with this Reading Trek based upon Kathryn Gibbs Davis' book, Mr. Ferris and His Wheel. Use the integrated map created with Google My Maps, reviewed here and the accompanying Teachers' Guide that includes lesson activities, map extensions, and more. This picture book chronicles the true story of engineer George Washington Gale Ferris Jr.'s creation of the original Ferris wheel for Chicago's 1893 World's Columbian Exposition. Although the book is targeted for grades K-5, it is also suitable for use with older students when studying inventors. Activities in the Teachers' Guide include correlations to Common Core Standards, National Curriculum for Social Studies, and Social Justice Standards.

The routines, such as See, Think, Wonder, Looking Ten Times Two, Step Inside, Headlines, Creative Questions, and ESP+I (Experience / Struggles / Puzzles / Insights), offer structured ways to move learners from observation to interpretation, perspective taking, summarizing, curiosity, and reflection. Each routine is explained with its purpose, suggested questions, and tips for adaptation. The activities emphasize flexibility and encourage teachers to build these routines into their "thinking toolkit" for richer classroom discussions.

In the Classroom
Assign students a genre (ex., mystery, sci-fi, historical fiction) from the platform and challenge them to write a short story or scene using that style. Bluesky is a social media platform similar to X (formerly Twitter). Members post and share content, videos, and images to engage with followers. To engage with others on the platform, members include hashtags like #EduSky and tag others with the @ symbol. Other features include the ability to create personalized feeds and starter packs that help new members find others to follow on the platform.

Van Andel Institute for Education offers free Veterans Day lessons that encourage understanding, gratitude, and respect for those who served. Activities include meeting defenders and veterans from throughout the ages, a tour of America's wars, and expressing gratitude to a veteran. Lessons are grouped into kindergarten to grade 2, grades 3 - 5, and grades 6-8. All games are linked to Google Slides that include a teacher overview, the required time, skills, and reflection.

Van Andel Institute for Education provides free, engaging games and activities for students in grades K-8. The website is organized into four main sections: Content-Specific, Cross-Curricular, Artificial Intelligence, and Social-Emotional Learning. The content-specific games support science, ELA, and engineering skills. Cross-curricular games include Baboon's Dilemma, Fact or Funny, Persuasion Contagion, and Twin to Win. In the AI section, students can explore AI Discovery Quest, Beat the Bot, Right or Wrong, and What is AI?. The social-emotional learning section features resources such as daily SEL activities, social stories, "Diving into CASEL," and "Be Kind to Your Mind" Bingo. Each game links to a Google Slides presentation that includes a teacher overview, estimated time, targeted skills, and reflection prompts.
