Take advantage of this free resource to create posters for any topic. Have students design poster book covers to summarize stories read. Include posters with student blogging projects as part of an online portfolio. Replace paper pen by asking students to write blogs sharing information learned using a site like edublogs, reviewed here. edublogs offers tools for creating class and individual blogs. Extend student learning and classroom technology use by asking older students to create posters of different cultures and countries, then include them in a virtual field trip using Google My Maps, reviewed here. Canva is easy to use and provides many templates for creating infographics. This site is very text intensive. Try using a word cloud tool like Wordsift, reviewed here, to identify and highlight important words found within the text to clarify content for all students, especially those with special learning needs. Wordsift also provides images and highlights text found within sentences to provide important context of information shared. As students complete the biome unit, ask them to create explanation videos sharing information from this site and others used during the unit. Discover basic information about the taiga biome on this site. Choose from the different links to learn about plants and animals, locations around the world, and changes occurring due to human impact. This site also includes a short video with images of animals found in the taiga. If your district blocks YouTube, then they may not be viewable.

In the Classroom

This site contains basic information to use as an introduction to taiga biomes. Include it when sharing other resources with your class. Consider using a bookmarking tool like Paply, reviewed here, to consolidate and share resources in one place. As you and your students progress throughout your biome unit, use a video response tool like Flip, reviewed here, to share student ideas and information learned.
