Celebrate Books on Book Lovers Day
Today, August 9, is Book Lovers Day. It is the perfect day to put away your phone, take a break from work, and relax with a good book. This week we're highlighting a few of our favorite book collections, to help you find new reading materials for your students and yourself.
Although this summer may have looked different than past summers, you can still travel aboard a cruise ship, explore a mysterious island, learn about summer weather, and meet some tiny creatures living in hotels when you go on a summer reading adventure.
Make reading a family journey with our TogetheREAD collection. We highlight a new topic each month and recommend books by age level. Find a book at the ideal level for each of your family members.
Find free books using this aggregator of digital libraries, including Gutenberg, Google Books, Wikibooks, and archive.org. There are different reading options, including audiobooks and PDFs. Some books are available in other languages.
Discover New Reading Opportunities
Engage your students with unique reading experiences beyond a physical book, including podcasts, reading for rewards, and interesting articles. Use these tools to connect with learners who may benefit from hearing the text and other features.
Camp BOOK IT! is a summer home reading program where students, grades K-6, earn monthly rewards for achieving reading goals. It isn't too late to enroll and motivate young readers to set and reach goals!
Try out this free, 20-minute podcast for middle school students that includes a new book discussion, author interview, and celebrity reading every week. The site also offers links to curriculum guides for several books and more and other resources.
Find news articles, written by kids about current events, both nationwide and in the writer's hometown. Find articles related to the pandemic, rights of immigrants, racial equality, animal rescue opportunities, healthcare, and even new TV series.
Increase Reading Fluency & Understanding
Use the tools shared in this section to empower students to overcome reading obstacles. Find tips and tools to share with your students during reading.
Find over 100 books and stories available as downloadable PDFs that use BeeLine Reader technology to highlight and wrap text to improve focusing and tracking while reading. There are stories available for all grade levels, many include lesson ideas!
Transform any text into a guided reading activity using vocabulary, keywords, and phrases. Create a presentation to highlight critical components of a text passage. Choose keywords or phrases, add your vocabulary list, and share the link with students.
Share text with your students and have readers highlight and add written and audio comments. Readers can also add comments within pictures, collaborate, and even select a specific part of an image to respond to.
