In the ClassroomUse this site for the basics of screencasting to begin your flipped journey. Mark it in favorits as you try some of the "flipped" teaching strategies for a unit or one day a week. If you read the "accountability" portion of the "Vodcasting" process, you will see an idea about "someday" being able to stop in the middle of the video and have the students answer questions. This is now possible if you use YouTube to store your video and use Grockit/Answers, reviewed here. Once finished, copy and paste the YouTube video address into Grockit/Answers. Watch it and stop it where you want to insert a question for students to answer. Your students type the answer directly into the space that goes with the video. You receive the answers online with your video.

Assign several student groups a different topic and redefine their learning by having each group create their own multimedia versions as they learn more about the topic. Students can combine their books later as a class book. Make a digital bookshelf of all the versions for all to use. Challenge gifted students to modify the "standard" class text with the additional material they discover, by going deeper and learning about related topics. In lower grades, create teacher-made e-books for your young readers, perhaps adding audio - your own voice reading the text.
Grades6 to 9
In the ClassroomIncorporate FutureSmart into your flipped classroom, assign different modules as homework. If integrating technology use in your classroom, try using an online bulletin board tool like Dotstorming, reviewed here, to have students post important decisions they made as mayor while advising citizens about their finances. Then discuss their decisions together in class. Allow students to make comments on the bulletin board during this discussion time, so all students will have a chance to express their opinions. Have students create a personal budget (or work in pairs to create an annual classroom budget) at the end of the course. Challenge students to create a presentation sharing what they learned using an interactive infographic like Infogram, reviewed here.

In the ClassroomChallenge older students to create their own Simpleshow. Have students use this tool to share their ideas or to "prototype" an idea. Students can modify their learning and create videos to show math processes, explanations of complex concepts, review new learning, teach others, explain scientific processes, tell stories, or present research. The possibilities are endless, and students will come up with hundreds of more uses. Use Simpleshow presentations in blended learning or flipped classrooms. Use Simpleshow to create teacher-authored animations for students in ANY grade. This tool is an excellent way to present new information or ideas for discussion. It is an easy way to share information with the class when a substitute is in your classroom. Embed your Simpleshow creations on your website or blog for students to review at home. Use a Simpleshow video on the first day of school to explain class rules or to give an exciting introduction to the year ahead. Use Simpleshow to create presentations for back to school night or conference nights to display on your interactive whiteboard or projector.
Grades6 to 12

Ask ESL/ELL and resource students to write text to explain concepts by rewording, or to ask questions about the parts they do not understand. Install the Hypothesis bookmark on classroom computers for use at any time.

Replace pen and paper writing journals by writeing a blog entry that shares their learning and understanding. Use a tool like Telegra.ph, reviewed here. This blog creator requires no registration. If you are teaching younger students and looking for an easy way to integrate technology and check for understanding, challenge your students to create a blog using Edublog, reviewed here. Check the site's homepage for upcoming webinars, then participate with your class. Check Twitter to see if your class can follow any of the presenting scientists. If you are lucky enough to live in the Washington, DC area, contact the museum to attend a live taping. After viewing a webinar, have students enhance their learning by creating a multimedia presentation using Slidestory, reviewed here. This site allows you to narrate a picture. Challenge students to find a photo (legally permitted to be reproduced), and then narrate the photo as if it is a news report. STEM in 30 is also a great resource for gifted students to get involved with their own challenges and pursuits.
Grades8 to 12
In the ClassroomInclude this site with any lessons on the power of the press, the 70's, or presidents. This site is perfect for a flipped classroom activity, have students view the video and complete the worksheet questions at home before going in-depth with the material at school. Transform learning by having students create a timeline of events related to Watergate (with music, photos, videos, and more) using Timeline JS, reviewed here. Redefine learning by allowing students to be journalists and create their own newspaper using a site such as Printing Press, reviewed here.

In the ClassroomR4S would be perfect for use as a blended-learning or the flipped classroom experience for upper high school into the first year of college. You can have students work online, or you can download into your course management system. Have students work through all the steps as part of a research assignment, or use only the parts relevant to them. Teachers need to register to receive the text copy of the helpful teacher's guide. Use the site in any subject or curriculum area.

Small groups and individual students can browse through the sections and play the interactives. Assign specific areas for students to complete at school or home as part of blended or flipped classrooms. Many downloadable handouts are available for classrooms with limited tech.

In the ClassroomWatch the short videos on the landing page to see how Cloudschool works; once signed up, you will have access to the very complete Help section. Within each course, create and distribute text-based or multimedia lessons containing a variety of formats which may be embedded, including audio, video, PDFs, and worksheets. Add discussion questions to all Lessons for students to reply to within your course environment. Use toolbars at the top as main controls for each page for easy navigation and creation. The left-side navigation menu links to Courses, Lessons, Curriculum Lists, and Files. Helpful tips appear by hovering over buttons. Click into a Course to add a new Lesson, then choose a Template, or use the Create New Lesson button. A Plus button at the top center of the page adds text, images, audio, and video to your lesson. Include homework, student discussion, assignments, and assessments which students submit outside of the Cloudschool environment. Notifications are available. After creating lessons, use your Teaching Space to give large or small group in-class presentations. Consider putting a bookmark on classroom computers to the lesson the students are to work on. You could also share the lessons on your class website. Share lesson plans with colleagues and administrators. Cloudschool is useful for any teacher to organize content and deliver it easily to individual students in class or at home as part of blended or flipped classroom environments. No classroom management tools are available since students do not register.

In the ClassroomTake advantage of these investigations to incorporate standards and use of primary documents into your classroom in a manner that appeals to today's students. Use as part of any Civil and Revolutionary War studies. Divide investigations between groups of students and have them present their findings to classmates. In your blended or flipped classroom, have students complete investigations before beginning any complementary unit. You, your gifted, or more technology inclined students could use these investigations as a model to enhance learning and create inquiries into any unit of study. Discover a new format for publishing writing of any genre: narrative, expository, or persuasive. Begin digital storytelling in an easy, simple way with all you need. Become a character from a story and retell the story in that character's words. Have students record lessons of them teaching content to other students. Record your lessons for your blended learning or flipped classroom. Record directions of a big project that your class has and publish it on your website for student reference. Choose a character or period of history and create a memory book. Have students describe their futures in a leadership presentation. Have students make study guides for content review.
