FSI provides United States government training for the foreign affairs community. Choose from commonly learned languages, such as Spanish or French, or select less-known languages, including Amharic and Yoruba. Each language provides different materials; some include course archives, while others offer a more extensive selection of materials to learn language basics and quick-start learning guides.

In the Classroom
Use this resource in world language classes and with ENL/ESL students. Include this site as a resource when students are preparing a project about another culture. If you have students in world language, world cultures, or even language arts classes who need enrichment - send them to this site to learn the basics of a new language or to look for roots that show in English. Self-motivated advanced students or those planning a semester abroad can learn language basics on their own here. Finally, include this site for "Children of the World Day" or family heritage day activities. Identify the basic page types and features available in Google Sites; 2. Become familiar with strategies for creating and organizing a portfolio site; and 3. Brainstorm ways to use portfolios in the classroom. This session is appropriate for teachers at all technology levels.

Customize and share personalized Wordles based upon the popular word game, Wordle, reviewed here using Make a Custom Wordle. Enter a word of any length (unlike the original word for five-letter words only) to generate a shareable link for your word. Make a Custom Wordle also offers the option to create words in several languages, including Spanish, French, Hindi, and German. Share the link with students using email, classroom management system, or class website. When complete, copy the URL to share by pasting it into an email or your blog or classroom website.

Use this Wordle generator in various ways in any classroom for increasing problem-solving and strategy skills. When using with young students, generate three or four-letter Wordles for students to attempt with partners. Provide a list of sight words if needed to avoid frustration. When teaching older students, develop Wordles to solve using vocabulary words, weekly spelling lists, science terms, or historical characters. Provide this site to students and create Wordles to share with their peers. Include a link on classroom computers during computer centers or as an activity when finished with daily assignments. Using this site is an excellent way to include ENL/ESL students in classroom activities by creating a word from their native language. Include others in your school community or parents by developing and sharing Wordles for your school or classroom site. The free version includes dyslexia fonts, a font changer, and the ability to adjust word spacing to make websites easier to view. Content features include Immersive Reader, translations, a picture dictionary, and screenshot tools. Enhanced display tools offer you the ability to emphasize links and adjust for color blindness. Try it for free by choosing your browser and following the directions to add the extension. After adding the extension, pin it to your toolbar and adjust the different options as desired.

Meaningful feedback helps everyone improve. Microsoft Teams offers both formal and informal feedback mechanisms. In Teams, you can give students assignments with all applicable resources and templates attached, then use rubrics, polls, and quizzes to offer timely feedback on progress toward learning goals. Learn to create and use this assignment and feedback loop to help students grow. As a result of this session, teachers will: 1. Learn how to create assignments in Microsoft Teams; 2. Understand how to give students feedback on completed assignments; and 3. Plan to use a rubric to offer students feedback. This session is appropriate for teachers at all technology levels.

We all know that learners need feedback. To maximize the benefit from that feedback, it should be given immediately -- ideally after each question. Google Forms can make that happen using conditional branching, the ability to send a user to a different question (or a different page of questions) based on the answer the user supplies. Learn to make your forms more functional and help every student be successful on your next quiz! As a result of this session, teachers will: 1. Create a Google Form. 2. Use branching to facilitate instant remediation and feedback. 3. Discuss tips and tricks for management of Google Forms. This session is appropriate for teachers at all technology levels.
