Lincoln Lesson Idea: Sensational Speeches

Objectives:

Students will deepen their understanding of U.S. history by critiquing and rewriting (in their own words) one of Lincoln's famous speeches.

Activity:

Share four of Lincoln's famous speeches using the site Abraham Lincoln. Share the podcasts and pictures on your interactive whiteboard or projector. Divide your class into groups; have the groups rewrite the speeches in their own words. Have the groups share their speeches with the class. Why not video the “remakes” to share using SchoolTube or TeacherTube.

Tips:

Be sure to obtain parental permission before videotaping students.
