The rhythm trainer provides tools for learning about and improving rhythm through six different training activities, tempo trainer, and metronome generators. As a new player to the site, begin with the First Steps activity that provides sounds for you to match the rhythm. This activity increases in difficulty as you select correct responses. Registration isn't required; however, creating an account allows you to save progress within each activity.

For younger students, select games, videos, and activities about well-known characters like Clifford the Big Red Dog, Arthur, Peg and Cat, Dr. Seuss, and more. Clicking All Games will give you 29 categories to choose from, for example, Team Work, Feelings, Engineering, Spelling, Reading, Healthy Habits, and many more. Click New Games to find topics such as Guess the Feeling, World Orchestra, and others to help familiarize youngsters with flight, trains, counting, and well, you name it, and PBS Kids probably has it!

The more songs you create, the more boomy personalizes offerings based on your preferences. Begin by selecting the option to create a song then choose a style. Style options include Beats By You, Relaxing Meditation, and Advanced. When ready, create your song. It may take a minute or more, so be patient as boomy works it magic. Once your song is ready, listen to the preview and make additional adjustments. Use the Try Again option to make a different mix or use the edit option to adjust the settings. When finished, save your song to your library. Next time you use boomy, the site uses your preferences and saved music to create new music. Download songs to your computer, choosing from a variety of audio file choices or share using the URL or links to social media sites.

Follow the links to download the software onto your computer to use with a variety of recording needs. Create audio using your files or create new files using your microphone or uploaded files. This is the perfect place to create your mixtapes!

Use Audacity in a variety of ways in your classroom. Let students become familiar with creating audio files by practicing voice recordings and experimenting with Audacity's editing tools. Are you having trouble finding Blues sites with the music? Listen to handpicked classic, popular Blues sounds of the 1920s, 30s, 40s and 50s on this YouTube playlist. You'll find Leadbelly, Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Jelly Roll Morton, Joe Venuti, Bessie Smith and many, many more. The music is crystal clear with none of the scratchy sounds you hear with many old songs that were recorded from old technology. If your district blocks YouTube, you may not be able to enjoy this music.

In the Classroom
Play musical selections for students to talk about musical elements and styles in music class. Scroll down the page to find links to other Past Perfect sites, or use the search bar and type in Past Perfect Vintage Music to get only that selection. Have partners explore the sites to find examples of different rhythms or styles they prefer. Enhance learning by having a class Padlet, reviewed here, where students share their favorites and listen to others' favorites. In social studies or history classes, use this Perfect Blues music as an introduction to any unit of study from the 1920s - 1950s in your classroom. Share with students for use in multimedia presentations (with proper attribution, of course). LibreTexts is an open educational resource (OER) for finding and sharing textbooks, textmaps, and libretexts. The site currently covers twelve college disciplines, from chemistry to the humanities. Advanced features within the books include embedded multimedia, embedded code, and the ability to use Hypothesis, reviewed here, as a collaborative digital annotation tool within texts. Choose the Explore the Libraries option to find material by subject. Most subjects include links to texts, course shells (teaching modules from different institutions), and homework examples.

In the Classroom
LibreTexts is a bonanza for AP and teachers of gifted students. Take advantage of the free texts, course outlines, and homework resources to differentiate instruction and provide lessons for advanced students. Choose resources from LibreTexts for use in any classroom to supplement current materials. As part of career-planning activities, ask students to browse through topics that interest them. Encourage students to collaborate with others with similar career interests, both in the classroom and globally. Extend learning by suggesting that students participate in Ted-Ed Clubs, reviewed here. These Clubs allow participants to share in global meetings with peers that have a common interest. As students learn more about their chosen field, encourage them to interact with members of your community to ask questions and perhaps job shadow as a way to understand the career through personal experience. If using course materials and textbooks found on LibreTexts, this is the perfect opportunity for students to ask clarifying questions from their mentor. Enhance learning by making students the experts. Ask them to present their career findings using a multimedia tool like Sway, reviewed here, to share the information learned with peers.

If you teach music, be sure to include this as a starting point for teaching music history and different formats. This site isn't just for music teachers. In Social Studies, use this site to provide context to different periods of history through music and as a starting point for student research on music styles and life during any period. If you teach Reading and Language Arts, use this site to find and share music from the period found in novels and current reading materials. Take advantage of students' interest in music to use this Musicmap as a starting point for research and biography projects. As students complete their research, enhance their learning by asking them to share their findings on a website created using Webnode, reviewed here. In the Classroom
Use this site to "hook" artistic-inclined students into learning more about the science behind their interests. Share podcasts with your students on your class website or have students listen on their own devices. After listening to podcasts, ask students to explore the topic further through research online. Instead of creating a written or online list of bookmarks used, replace these and have students create a Padlet, reviewed here, to include bookmarks, images, videos, and additional content. Share the Padlet with other students and classes to allow others to collaborate on the topic. Use this podcast series as inspiration for students to create their own podcasts. Instead of having students respond through a writing project, expand this into a weekly or bi-weekly podcast sharing student research into the arts and sciences.
