Knowing if students "caught what was taught" is crucial in instruction. This session introduces the concept of exit tickets and ways you can use them to gauge what your students took away from your lessons. Learn to use the data from these informal formative assessments to adjust your instructional plan to accommodate the needs of your students. Allow students who are ready to move on and give those who need additional instruction the attention they need. Join us to explore the use of exit tickets and determine how they can fit into your instructional plan. As a result of this session, teachers will: 1. Learn about three categories of exit tickets; 2. Understand how to use exit ticket data; and 3. Plan for the use of exit tickets in your setting. This session is appropriate for teachers at all technology levels.

MyNetDiary will help you keep track of calories, exercise, AND also has a support community to give you help with meeting your goals. The community forum is monitored by a registered dietitian for extra support. In addition to calorie counts, the program keeps track of 36 different nutrients (like sodium, saturated fats, calcium, and more). Per the MyNetDiary site, they have "over 800,000 professionally-entered and verified foods with accurate information on servings." There is a free tier of service, plus a premium membership. This review is for the free tier.

MyFitnessPal is basically a food diary; what makes it exceptional is their extensive food database (over 11 million foods) to help you count and keep track of your calorie intake. You can view nutritional information about each of the food items (sugar, protein, cholesterol, and more). You can also view your total nutrition for the day, for example, 45 grams of sugar and what you have consumed.
This app will help you keep track of your physical activity, too. With MyFitnessPal just enter your goal weight and the app will calculate what your daily calorie intake should be. Whenever you eat something, enter it manually or scan a barcode and the program deducts the calories from your total, showing you the calories you have left for the day. Of course, exercising allows you to have a larger total for your calorie intake. Enter your calories burned by exercise and MyFitnessPal will add them back into the total for the day. There is a free tier of service, plus a Premium membership. This review is for the free tier.

Bloomz is a tool that has several free features that teachers need to communicate with their classroom community: share photos, schedule conferences, send reminders, and more. These features are all in one place. So don't use one program to share photos, one to send reminders, one to share calendar updates, and another to schedule volunteers and conferences. Just use Bloomz and do all of the work from the same site. Once you have signed up with your email, watch the introduction video and view the demo class to see how easy Bloomz is to use. Use Bloomz for all your communications with your classroom community. Not only that, but share important documents (field trip permission slips, a syllabus, etc.) for others to access; post photos of special projects in class or from field trips. P.E. teachers and coaches can use this tool to post what skills students are learning and action pictures of student involvement in games and activities. Parents can download the free app or receive updates via email. Currently, there are three ways to invite parents and other class members. Email, enter the information manually, or upload an Excel spreadsheet and send a bulk invitation. Create groups within your Bloomz class and invite members. These groups might be volunteers in the classroom, volunteers for driving on a field trip, and more. Then you can communicate just to that group when necessary. Discover some of the world's best online courses with Springboard's search engine. Enter what you want to learn into the search bar. Explore the offerings provided or browse by subject, university, or providers. Narrow results down by starting date, teaching method, or credentials. Each entry includes a short description of the course, fees (many are free!), start dates, length of course, and skill level required. Many classes also include reviews from other Springboard's users. Click the "Enroll" link to go directly to the course or save to your wish list after creating a free account. Some of the videos are hosted on YouTube. Most do not require Flash. If your district blocks YouTube, then they may not be viewable.

Give Me Sport is an online magazine offering the most current sports news, opinions, videos, and more. Choose specific sports categories or view articles by what is trending and the latest news. Find more global sports information by choosing to view the UK version instead of the US version of the magazine (use the drop down box at the top of the page). This site contains options for comments on all articles that are not moderated. Be sure to preview comments before sharing with students.

Offer Give Me Sport as an alternative to reluctant readers for independent reading. Challenge students to find articles and then research additional information for writing projects or biography reports. Have students create an annotated image including text boxes and related links using a tool such as Image Annotator, reviewed here. The Lowell Milken Center discovers, develops and communicates the stories of Unsung Heroes who have made a profound and positive impact on the course of history. Click Programs on the top menu and select Unsung Hero Projects to learn about everyday people who became heroes by standing up to adversity in their lives. Each project features information about the hero and the storyteller. Some projects include links to student-created web pages and videos. If your district blocks YouTube, the videos may not be viewable. Start your own Unsung Hero project using the ten steps provided to include inspiration from start to finish. This resource also includes Lesson Plans.
