Numerade is an interactive science and math platform that contains over one million video lessons taught by top educators from around the US. Engage with the site's content through several different options, including questions found in many textbooks, test prep books, or "Winter Break Bootcamps" that provide short, focused lessons on topics such as calculus and physics. Each lesson is a video explanation of specific questions and uses whiteboards to draw and share information. Registration isn't necessary to view and share videos; it provides the opportunity to create classrooms by importing information from Google Classroom or manually creating a class. Use your class information to build and share playlists with students. Registered users also have the option to create and share videos with students.

In the Classroom

Numerade features video lessons from many different textbooks, making it a useful resource to supplement current classroom content. Check to see if your current textbooks are available, including videos as a part of a playlist to share with students. Take advantage of the playlists as a resource for homework or remote learning lessons. Use the videos found on this site as a model for students to share and explain their solutions to math and science problems. Incorporate a FlipGrid, reviewed here, assignment to post questions for student response, and ask them to use the whiteboard feature to share solutions and their problem-solving process. Consider sharing videos with advanced students to use as a resource for working ahead within textbooks, or by assigning a different textbook than used in class.

ClassPad is an internet-based calculation tool that supports graphing, statistical calculations, and geometric calculations. Use the tools to create equations, graphs, and more. Add sticky notes to add messages to any page. Create papers of your own, or use the dashboard to find public documents to replicate and share. Invite others to add to your calculations using the share feature to provide a link publically or with a password. Share options also offer the opportunity for assigning homework with your chosen due date. Learn how to use the different features found on ClassNet by accessing the User Guide link found at the Help drop-down menu located at the top of the site's home page.

Even if you don't use the Bridges in Mathematics curriculum, this site provides many supports for any math curriculum. Take advantage of the daily math activities to share open-ended math problems with students using FlipGrid, reviewed here. Display the problem on Flipgrid, and ask students to create a video sharing their response and problem-solving technique. Use the math activities to differentiate students' activities, use ideas from upper grades to challenge students, or help struggling students reinforce previous concepts by choosing ideas from lower grade levels.

The authentic nature of simulations can be highly motivating for even your hardest to reach students. When used properly, instructional simulations can empower student learning, helping students to set goals, seek feedback, and demonstrate what they have learned. Learn to choose simulations that model the relationships between concepts studied. In this session, we will discuss how to best use simulations in the classroom to increase student achievement, allow students to reflect on what they have learned, and transfer their knowledge to new problems and situations. As a result of this session, teachers will: 1. Understand the value of using simulations in the classroom; 2. Explore instructional simulations; and 3. Plan for the use of simulations in the instructional setting. This session is appropriate for teachers at all technology levels.

Take advantage of the free lessons and classroom lending program to bring Rubik's Cube problem-solving activities into your classroom. This resource may be the perfect solution for students who struggle academically to achieve success uniquely. Prepare students for the cubes' arrival by brainstorming ideas on how to solve cubes (keep in mind there are different versions). Find a YouTube video with master Rubik's Cube solvers to promote interest in the activities. When the cubes arrive, use them as a problem-solving center by providing the solution guides for students to follow. LibreTexts is a bonanza for AP and teachers of gifted students. Take advantage of the free texts, course outlines, and homework resources to differentiate instruction and provide lessons for advanced students. Choose resources from LibreTexts for use in any classroom to supplement current materials. As part of career-planning activities, ask students to browse through topics that interest them. Encourage students to collaborate with others with similar career interests, both in the classroom and globally. Extend learning by suggesting that students participate in Ted-Ed Clubs, reviewed here. These Clubs allow participants to share in global meetings with peers that have a common interest. As students learn more about their chosen field, encourage them to interact with members of your community to ask questions and perhaps job shadow as a way to understand the career through personal experience. Display on your interactive whiteboard (or projector) to help students compare and relate numbers to physical objects or similar items. Challenge students to add their own number "annotations" to passages they read, especially when doing close reading of informational texts. Make number sense a routine part of reading.

Graphing Stories is a math activity that teaches how to transition from one-variable representations to two-variable representations (number lines to coordinate planes). Use the attached Teacher Guide to plan instruction using the included videos and whiteboard for sketching. The helpful "Teacher Moves" provides tips for guiding instruction within each of the videos. Create a free Desmos account to make a class code to use the activity with students. Desmos recommends a different class code for each class period.

In the Classroom

Take advantage of the many free activities provided by Desmos by creating your account and saving favorites to collections. Use the Graphing Stories as a self-paced activity for students to complete in place of other homework assignments or as a collaborative activity with peers. Be sure to ask students to create their representations to share in the class gallery. For more specific information on using Desmos tools, search for tutorials on YouTube. Ask students to include reflections about their learning process in a digital portfolio created with Pathbrite, reviewed here. Include screenshots of the learning process as slides within the portfolio or create a screencast tutorial using Free Screen Recorder Online, reviewed here, and embed it within the portfolio. Instead of providing step by step instructions for students, ask students who work ahead to create explainer videos for their peers using FlexClip, reviewed here.

CanFigureIt is an interactive tool and workspace for exploring and learning about geometric proofs. This tool, developed to help promote problem-solving skills and logical thinking, provides immediate feedback to student responses. Start as a guest user, or apply for the Proof Ninja Educator Program to receive student reports. Choose from over 450 different topics, then follow prompts to justify claims and make proofs. Take advantage of the included tutorial videos to understand how to use all of the features of the program. Although optimized for Chromebooks, this site works on PC's and Macs but is not optimized for use on mobile devices.

Apply for the Proof Ninja Educator Program to take advantage of the additional features for monitoring student work. This site is an excellent way to differentiate learning for different levels of student understanding. Bookmark this site to find math problems correlating to your teaching standards or content. This site is perfect for finding materials to differentiate instruction with different student ability levels. Have students share their results and discuss their problem-solving process on your interactive whiteboard. Take screenshots of the different solutions and include on your class website. Another option is to take a picture of student's written solutions, then use ThingLink, reviewed here, to extend student learning by having them add an audio recording describing their mathematical thinking. Share their ThingLink images on your website, or add to your student's digital portfolio on Seesaw, reviewed here, or another portfolio creation site. As students become more proficient in sharing their mathematical thinking and problem-solving activities, consider using their math talks as part of an ongoing podcast using Buzzsprout, reviewed here, as a way to extend student learning and promote math conversations and help students understand that there may be many different ways to arrive at the right answer to a problem. Expii is a free resource for learning about math and science topics creatively through video and written explanations provided by different expert contributors. Math content begins with pre-algebra and moves up through advanced topics. Many units also offer options for practice. Expii also encourages students and teachers to add their content. Search for topics by keyword or choose from the different math and science topics to begin learning. Use Expii without registering; however, free registration allows you to save favorites for later use. If your district blocks YouTube, then the videos may not be viewable.

Include Expii with your links for students to use at home and in class. Expii is an excellent way to provide content explanation through the voice of many different speakers, allowing the opportunity to increase student understanding. To enhance learning, ask groups of students to view lessons provided by the different contributors, then ask them to compare and contrast information by creating a concept map or Venn Diagram using Canva, reviewed here. At the end of a teaching unit, ask students to redefine what they learned using a multimedia tool like Adobe Spark in K-12, reviewed here, or Sway, reviewed here, to share their learning. Be sure to have them include their own video explanation of the content.
