Knowt's editing features allow you to highlight text, change font, add quotes, and more. When ready, select the quiz icon and Knowt creates a quiz based on information found in the document. Share Knowt with students as a resource for practicing for upcoming quizzes and tests. Consider this option as an alternative to flashcards or other review methods. As students become familiar with Knowt, use this tool as a starting point on lessons sharing how to find and understand important information within any piece of writing. Google Jamboard is a collaborative, online whiteboard application. Use the tool options to access the pen, eraser, add sticky notes, and upload images. Jamboard also includes some limited options to change the background. Add "frames" to create whiteboard displays similar to a slide show. Email the link to your board to add collaborators using the share icon. Be sure to select the drop-down box to add collaborators as editors, not just viewers. When finished, use the three dots near the top of the page to rename your Jamboard, download your work as a PDF, save as an image. All work automatically saves within your Google Drive account.

Use Jamboard on your interactive whiteboard (or with a projector) to share and highlight information for students. If you don't have a Microsoft Office subscription, no need to worry, access and create PowerPoints online with the free version found at the Office Online site. Start from scratch with a blank presentation or choose from the many templates on the site. After selecting a template, add text, images, draw, and incorporate all of the features of PowerPoint. The default option includes the Simplified (single line) Ribbon, turn it off to view the enhanced Ribbon with additional customization options. PowerPoints created at the online site save automatically to your OneDrive account that is accessible from any device. Use the share link to copy the link and email your presentation.

Feedly is a news aggregator that lets you curate, organize, and share the content of your favorite sites in one place. Create an account to begin, then follow the directions to add content to your feed. Organize information by creating and labeling feeds by topic. Links within items in your feed offer options to share by email or on Twitter and other social networking sites. Additional options allow you to change the view of feeds by title, magazine, or cards. Fine-tune your feed by adding filters to hide unwanted topics or keywords, or select items to save for reading at a later time.

Use Feedly in the classroom in a variety of ways. Create a feed with your professional resources, including favorite classroom websites, professional learning sites, and the latest educational news. Share this feed with your peers to use during professional development sessions. For older students, create a feed with information about your current learning topics. For example, when teaching about climate change and conservation, create a feed to share with students containing information from a variety of sources. Ask students to use this information during their research to learn about this topic from a broader viewpoint. As you and your students find articles of importance, save them within a Wakelet, reviewed here. Use Wakelet to create different collections based on specific topics. As a final project, ask students to share their learning by creating a Wakelet collection that includes articles found on Feedly along with their final research presentation.

Create and share data with the different GIF formats offered by Google News Lab. Choose from the three theme options - rectangles, circles, or racetrack to begin. Follow the prompts to add a title and data values. Add data as a percentage or numerical values then customize your GIF by selecting from different color options. When finished, save as an HQ (high quality) or LQ (low quality) GIF. Once created, save the GIF to your computer or share using the provided link.

This tool provides you and your students an excellent resource for engagingly sharing data. Use the Data GIF Maker to create a visual display when collecting data. For example, begin using this tool by polling your class to find out their favorite type of pizza and then enter the data to create a GIF. Use the same data in all three included formats to compare and contrast how the information looks based on the type of chart used. Take this same information and have students calculate the percentages and create GIFs to compare and contrast this information with your original images. Once you and your students are familiar with how to use this site to create GIFs, use it to enhance student learning by including GIFs within your presentations for students to evaluate and to visualize any data. Create GIFs to document student reading logs, the amount of time spent on homework, or time spent on community service. Have students include GIFs when annotating images using ThingLink, reviewed here, or within presentations created with tools such as Sway, reviewed here.

Ask students to create videos as an alternative to book reports or written presentations. Share videos on your class website for students to access when away from the classroom. Experiment and play with music using Google MixLab. Allow your computer's microphone access to the site then try some simple commands. Tell MixLab to add different types of beats, play instruments you choose, or speed up or slow down your creation. Tell the site to surprise you with something or use voice commands to create a unique presentation. MixLab also works through Google Home devices. When finished, share on social media or with the URL created with the "Share this Mix" link.

Use this site in the music classroom to assist students when learning about different music beats, types of instruments, and to experiment with creating music. Google MixLab is also an excellent addition to all classrooms for use with multimedia presentations. Have students create music blends to use as a background when creating a slide show or explainer video. Use this site to set the mood during reading class to coincide with the tone of different portions of novels or stories. For example, create uplifting music to share as story characters achieve success or use music to set a mysterious tone during unexpected events. Use MixLab as an exit ticket and ask students to create a music mix sharing their feelings on how their day went. Have students write digital books using Book Creator, reviewed here, and include their mixes to develop and enhance their stories.

Zapier helps you organize and manage your workflow between apps through automated tasks. Create an account and use the guide to find and choose apps you use. Zapier integrates with a multitude of apps, including Dropbox, Gmail, Facebook, Twitter, as well as many other online tools. Connect two or more apps to create an automated action. Choose to create a Zap to select an app and an event. For example, select your Gmail account and create a path to save all Gmail attachments to your Google Drive automatically. Be sure to check out the "Recommended for You" options for an overview of the many ways to organize the workflow between apps.

The more songs you create, the more boomy personalizes offerings based on your preferences. Begin by selecting the option to create a song then choose a style. Style options include Beats By You, Relaxing Meditation, and Advanced. When ready, create your song. It may take a minute or more, so be patient as boomy works it magic. Once your song is ready, listen to the preview and make additional adjustments. Use the Try Again option to make a different mix or use the edit option to adjust the settings. When finished, save your song to your library. Next time you use boomy, the site uses your preferences and saved music to create new music. Download songs to your computer, choosing from a variety of audio file choices or share using the URL or links to social media sites.

Post QR codes to resource sites and new articles on your BYOD classroom bulletin boards for students to access information on their tablets or smartphones. As a time-saver, post a QR code to the class wiki or web page.

Insert polls within your slides to quickly gauge students' understanding of the content or ask them to respond to questions throughout the presentation. Use the embed video feature to have all students watch portions of video directly from your laptop onto their device. Have students use Audience Connect as an enhancement to any class presentation to keep their audience involved and active in the presentation topic.

SceneVR is a virtual reality editor that turns panoramic images into a slideshow. Use the editor to upload panoramic photos from a camera or panoramic scenes from phones. To create your slideshow, log in using your Google account to open SceneVr Creator and follow prompts to upload images. After editing your project, publish using the links to share online, embed it into a website, or share it on Twitter or Facebook. Be sure to check out the site's tips for creating projects.

In the Classroom

Use SceneVR to take slide presentations to a whole new level. Quickly upload panoramic photos from class field trips, science experiments, or presentations to create a unique presentation to share with parents and families on your website. Ask students to use their photos to create a virtual reality presentation. For example, when learning about geometric shapes, have students take panoramic images of your classroom and school. Put these images into SceneVR to create a presentation and allow students to explore your "virtual world" for shapes found around them. Extend learning further by incorporating the slideshows into a multimedia presentation such as a digital book made with Book Creator, reviewed here, or Sway, reviewed here. Use your (or student-created) multimedia presentations to present a larger picture of any concept by incorporating text, images, and videos along with your slideshow.

Contexted uses your text and notes to build a Wiki-like knowledge base. Type or paste in your text and highlight words to create links to online resources or add notes. Contexted creates mindmaps using your notes to form visualizations of related content. Free accounts include unlimited content, mindmap view, and markdown export.

Use Contexted as a collaborative note taking tool to use with peers. Create an account for all of you to use, then add notes, links, and information in one place as needed. Have students use Contexted's mind mapping feature to plan and outline writing projects. Create a class account and have students use it for note taking. Select the tool you need, upload your file, and choose from additional options based on the function selected. Scroll down within each of the tasks to find easy to follow step-by-step directions for converting and saving your file. CleverPDF also includes a downloadable application for use on Windows and Mac computers for converting files without an Internet connection.

Be sure to bookmark this site on all classroom and personal computers for use throughout the year. If you have a large PDF file but only need a page or two, use CleverPDF to extract it for you.
